1. Woolworths
2. Currys
3. Choices (a video rental shop that also does a good line of games)
4. Argos
5. Virgin
Woolworths was my first stop. After finding a member of staff working in the electronics section. I asked them will you be stocking the new Gamecube.
"Gamecube?"
"yeah, Nintendo make it"
"hang on I'll ask"
Five minutes later the answer I got was don't know. Still my hopes weren't high.
Next shop was curries. I asked the manager there.
"will you be stocking the new Nintendo Game cube when it come out"
"mmmmmm....is that a games console"
"yeah"
Bloke behind the counter "Yeah we stock all the new Consoles"
Still at least I got an answer from the good people at Curries. Next stop choices.
When I asked the bloke in choices he seemed to know what he was talking about
"we'll probaly be stocking it...though it depends when it comes out"
Still i got a bloke who knew what he was talking about and he knew what it was.
Just down the road was Argos. I asked the woman behind the counter:
"Will you be stocking the Gamecube?"
"Hang on"
The answer once again was "i don't know"
Right the last stop Virgin. When I asked the bloke about the game cube he say that they would definately be stocking it. Not only did he tell me all he knew he also told me his personal thoughts on the game cube.
So out of ten I give Woolies 2/10 Argos 2/10 Curries 4/10 Choices 5/10 and Virgin 8/10.
You should say "are you going to sell the Ps3?
See what they say, he he
And people who really do have an interest, are really dedicated, would work really hard, and would undoubtedly be good at the job are left on the unemployed list!
(I'm not an angry unsuccessful SR job applicant, honest.)
I wouldn't expect anyone in Woolworths or Argos to know anything about videogame systems in general, let alone specific machines. In our local Woolworths in the run-up to last Christmas, one "assistant" had to go and ask for help when a customer asked if a DVD would play in their VCR! (And I swear I am not making that up.)
Choices maybe could have done better, but they only rent the games out and aren't really required to have any knowledge of the hardware.
Virgin I'm a little surprised at - they project a very 'with it' image, but apparently they aren't.
Currys I'm not at all surprised about. They're part of the same company as Dixons, Comet, PC World and a few others, and in my experience none of the staff in any of their shops could find their arris with both hands - they really are universally dire.
Damn X-Box.... I wish my daddy was a multi-billionaire!
