On the way there, there were no fewer than 9 accidents on the A14(!), and on the way back I was stuck at Leicester Rail Station for 40mins...
Anyway, enough of the grumbling:
For those of you who don't know me (I don't usually stray this side of the gaming forums, despite the length of time I've been on the site!), I'm hoping to do Computer Science at uni.
The interviews were quite straight forwards... I had 3 in total:
1) General: Why do you want to study at Cambridge; what other interests do you have etc, etc. In my case this was a very informal chat that was quite interesting
2) Subject specific: They asked me about following algorithms and probablilities... very simple maths (esp. seeing as I'm studying TRIPLE maths at A levels!!!:!:!!)
3) A while back I was told to read a particular book on computer science... this interview was about the maths in this book.... which was challenging, but because you are prompted at various stages it's easy to get through...
So there you have it! My interviews... I thought I did quite well... especially compared to some people who games the following answers to questions:
QU: What books do you read to keep up to date with the subject
ANS1: I don't enjoy reading- it doesn't do anything for me
ANS2: I don't really read much... for my computing coursework I have to do a bit of programming, so i read a bit of this one programming book... errrr... and that's all....

As for films I have sky digital so there's a ready supply of new films, supplemented by the classics on Sky cinema, and then obscure french films on BBC knowledge and a variety of other channels. Then I have DVDs to watch and all in all I prefer films to games now. So there we go. Also the DVD forum tends to have a minimal number of morons whereas the FOG chats are full of the blighters.
I'll add a post if I get an offer from Cambridge.. but I will stay in the cosy comfort of my DVD forums, with occasional forays into the life forum, which is ruined by the addition of sport!
Once I heard his critisism of Cambridge, I knew it was him!
Damn lawyer wannabe!

Cool.
I applied for some computer games course, or something. I'm hopefully not going to end up going mind, as I've got Rareware in mind.
Hopefully.
But things never go as planned, so I'm not even going to think about it.
Odd how u live in the DVD forums, and I live in the games forums...

Thought it was you..
> I applied for Law at Downing.
Odd how I have a friend who wants to do law at downing...
he also happens to write on this site...
and happens to have won exactly the same number of games as you...
hmmmmmmmm... kc?

I now have the long wait until "after christmas but before the New year" to paraphrase them. Fingers, toes, arms and legs remain firmly crossed and I await their decision with nerves of pure cotton.
> Oxford interviews, on the whole, tend to be more aggressive.
Well, party true. Oxford keeps you for longer so that if the interviewer thinks you are good enough to do the subject, but not right for that college, you can go to another college and have interviews. As for them being tougher... RUBBISH! It depenmds on the course and college. If you apply to a college that specialises in Mats, it'll be harder to get in there than at a college that is weak at maths... but it's college dependant, not uni dependant.
Oxford also
> requires written work, whereas most Cambridge colleges don't.
Not at all true! It depends entirely on the course and college! Arty courses at Oxford and Cambridge (history, english etc) almost always ask for work. Science courses do not.
Oxford operates
> on an initial flurry of exams in your first term and then none till your finals.
> Whereas at Cambridge you take your exams at the end of each year, and so it's
> also easier to switch subjects if you really don't like what you're doing.
True about the switching... the cambridge Tripos system means that you get to do 3 subjects. So I'll be doing 50% comp sci, 25% maths and 25% any natural science.
I
> had my interview at Cambridge yesterday and you know, it wasn't as scary as I
> had thought it would be, hell, it was even fun.
Well, they say that you only get to do it once... so have fun! What did you apply for, and where?
