A bit like GTA3, so this is a sort of sequel (clever eh? You see what I did there?)
First up, a big cheers to SR for the games trade-in system.
I got rid of Smackdown 3 and got Soul Reaver 2.
Now I have the 1st one, and it's pretty good. A bit Tomb Raider but with vampires and stuff. Puzzles were frustrating at times but nowhere near as stupid as that stupid underwater mirror-room bit in Tomb Raider 3.
I mean jesus, who thought to actually stop near drowning to check a mirror? stupid pikeys, that's who. What a stupid puzzle that was, what kind of muddyfunster thought....ahem
Soul Reaver 2 is by far one of the most playable and fun games I've had on any system yet.
And I haven't heard anything about it whatsoever.
Why, why did GTA3 have zero publicity and yet we all realise how stunning it is, same with SR2.
Where to start?
Ok, the biggest problem I had with SR1 was that you didn't know where to go or what to do next, which meant a LOT of backtracking and scratching of heads, smoking of cigarettes and screaming red-faced into cushions to muffle the anguished screams of "OH FOR F...." when you walk through the swamp for the 14th time.
Well now you have a compass and a little red dot on the map to tell you what direction to head in.
It doesn't tell you how to get there, but at least now you know where you can't get to because you're stupid (might just be me though on that one).
So the good points?
Amazing, stunning graphics. And I can't describe just how sweeeet these are. Glorious, beautiful locations with flames flickering on marble floors, stars slowly revolving, rain falling on the character EXACTLY like in the MGS2 demo.
Faultless, and the bit that still makes me go "wow" are the little cannon-dudes that fire at you and the ball comes 3d at you, looks just great (sorry that sounds so poncy).
Plot? Massive, complex and involving.
Voice action? Again, faultless.
Gamplay? Excellent, puzzles are difficult but the clues are there, not hunting for switches you can't see but trying to figure out how to get across that gap? And the answer is devious yet completely obvious once you figure it out. (and I've only needed a walkthrough guide on ONE bit)
And the DVD...oh heavenly special features.
A complete plot-line of the games so far, history of Nosgoth (the world you inhabit), background to the Vampire race.
Artwork and publicity art:
All the paintings and drawings used to promote the game.
3d renders and model-work of all the characters
Behind the scenes:
Voice sessions. You can see the actors recording the dialogue with the scenes in a little window at the same time. Raziel does not look like a 52yr old dude from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine but there you go.
Music from both games
Movies
Cut-scenes
And a LOT more. Is this a trend? Packaging games like DVD movies with extra features?
A long rambling post, but if you liked Tomb Raider just a bit but thought it got boring, then this is for you.
If you liked Soul Reaver but hated the not-knowing-where-to-go or having to start a loaded games from the beginning?
They've improved this 100%
Soul Reaver 2 is one of the most impressive titles yet on the PS2, and like GTA3 has just slipped out onto the shelves with no fanfare when it really, really deserves it.
Just buy it you dirty hippies
*stamps fist on the table*
i getting Soul Reaver 2
As does GTA3.
But in a different way altogether.
Being a Vampire rules, as does being a criminal thug maniac with weapons and nice cars to steal.
You mentalist.
Soul Reaver 2 (seeing as that's what this post was about).
Soul Reaver 2 rocks, as does GTA3, but I think Soul Reaver 2 is better because there's more to it.
Ooooo, controversy
Just running about the city without shooting people.
So there.
