I don't think you can play copied games on it which means Nintendo won't loose out on piles of money like Sony did as you could Chip the Playstation and play copied games on it. And if you Chip the Gamecube there is a switch to change what type of game it is eg. American or Japanese and I Don't think it messes anything up in the Cube like some chips for the PS did!

It is release 14.12.2001, so if they can chip them for compatibly over here then I might get one of those instead!

OK, let's get this sorted... chipping is not JUST to play imports... it's also to play copied games...
In fact the GB did have many copied games on it... carts that often had several games on were sold (and still are) for a few pounds in the East.
And, yes, the GC will be chipped for all territory games. Whether it'll be able to play copied games is slightly less likely due to the small optical discs....
You see, the DC sis not use CD's, so instead the way people got round this was to copy games onto CD's and make the console think it was playing CDs...
With the GC CDs won't fit into the console (from what I understand/have been told by people on SR. Therefore, the only way to copy games is to:
1) Have an external storage medium, which is far too complex for people to be bothered with (like the V64 Doctor)
2) For optical disc writers to become available to the public... if this happened then the whole copying scene would open up... and seeing as the companies who use the disc want it to become a new massmarket medium, this could well happen!

Yeah i read that guide, but i dont wanna buy an american console and then find i wont ever be able to play PAL games on it.
It's quite possible that the same could be done for UK as well.
English TVs use PAL signal (Borders around deges of games mainly noticeable on Playstations)
Japanese and America Use NTSC.
In other words the chip tricks the system into thinking its another country computer
Well they can play them already :)
Name a console that has NOT been chipped to play imports after a few months of its life?
If you can name one, its gonna be a pretty unpopular one!

Yeah, there's a switch on the back of mine which alternates between US and JPN territory.
Even the menus are in English too...
