I've been learning and using Javascript for a couple of years now and I think it's a really useful language. But why, when I utter the word 'JavaScript', do children in far away lands shiver? I can't understand what the problem is with it. I know a few people on this forum don't like it, so now I'm asking...no...CHALLENGING you for a reason. Have you ever used JS before?

Frames? I meant layers, but it goes for frames also.
I know quite a lot of JavaScript and I'm not too bad either. The thing is, it's really badly supported compatability-wise and is *very* slow. For example, that nice trick ZP wanted slowed my comp down so much it nearly crashed. Further more, it ads *nothing* to the content.
Some JS is OK, but generally stay way, way ayay from anything that involves frames or CSS.

I've used javascript before, and it's a fairly intelligent way to deal with client side extensions to html's capabilities.. on the other hand, it can be painful sometimes. I'd rather implement stuff server-side with PHP or Perl and format output as html as opposed to popping up dialogs with javascript.
In general it's good to know how to use it even if you move on later to do more complex stuff.
