"Is This Computer Spec Okay?"

Sorry to post this here, but it's quite urgent.

I might be getting a Pentium 4 2.6 computer with 512 MB Ram, a Radeon 9600 TX graphics card, 120GB Hard Disk, 19' Monitor and all the rest of it for about £900.... is that any good? it's got loads of software, audio Audigy Drives and what-not, but I haven't got a clue about all this.

It's completely academic what motherboard his uses when he has a several hundred pound advantage on you even before you go monitor/DVDRW shopping.

Then tell me...what mobo do they use could be jetway if anything avoiding that everything else is fine if it is a VIA KT400 or Nforce 2 chipset or whatever.

Perhaps.. but a DVD burner isn't a must atm.

It looks like a very good deal. Just make sure it comes with a warranty! If that hard disk is an IBM, don't put anything you couldn't afford to lose on it.

You will most likely find it impossible to find a slow 120gb, they're all 7200. However, noise might be a different matter.

However, still a bargain. Not a cheap rip off at all!

Look at the speed of the HD too, if it's slow then having a fast processor won't be very effective...

It's like selling a car with a GPS system but on closer inspection it only works in Upminster!

It sounds flashy but it's really actually just a cheap rip off!

It's a Pioneer DVD burner.

Only 2x write speed though. The best is 4x now, which is why Pioneer 2x writers are on the cheap.

You can get them for about £160 from the right places now, because they're out of date...

Gotta love computers.

Find out the brand of each peripheral too on the PC.

It may sound like the beast of a DVD-RW but it may ~sound~ like a beast of a DVD-RW!

Check the stuff out, it may look good but the stuff may just be cheap and nasty and will probably break soon!

Don't be tempted by the offers, the pop up all the time, research first, find out how good things are!

It's like buying a car, you don't rush out and get the cheapest/best you can buy, you buy a car that's good value for money but also has a good rating in that it lasts long...

Do some research frist, have a look at Which? to see what they say...

hmmm not bad but AMD is better!
Medion are not that bad really, dell's are overpriced .. and SR pc's are not bad but i wouldnt want to buy a Geforce FX with it.
Just make sure everything is working fine if u buy it cos all i've been reading is probs with ATI cards...
