Next year Nintendo will release probably their most eagerly awaited console. The GameCube. And next year, I will be buying a GameCube. Do you know why?

Not because I think it’s the best of the next gen consoles, not simply out of loyalty to Nintendo not even because the console is smooth so I can’t cut myself on it, although that factor did kind of put me off a PS2… :-D

No, not because of any of those reasons, simply because the console and the games appeal to ME. I don’t care if no one else here shares the same opinion; I don’t care if the PS2 is out now, and I don’t care that the X-Box will be more powerful. The GameCube appeals to me so I am gong to buy one.

Why does it appeal to me? Because the games look awesome... To me. So what, they look cute, cuddly and childish, I’m 13, I’m allowed to want cute cuddly and childish things because, at this moment in time, I’m still a child.

Pikmin, to me, looks like a fantastic game. Getting to guide weird little plant things round a garden, ordering them to attack nasty beasts and making them find bits of my spaceship sounds great fun… To me. Who cares if it’s cuter than a baby rabbit? It still looks like a superb game that will give me hours and hours of fun. Even if this game’s main character were Bill Gates I’d still buy it because it appeals to me, not because it appeals to other people, because it appeals to me.

Another prime example is Super Smash Brothers Mêlée. Taking control of one of Nintendo’s characters and guiding them through levels kicking the living daylight’s out of anyone who gets in their way. So what if it’s set in lush environments that give you toothache because they’re so sweet. The game looks fantastic and it’s supposed to play even better than it looks! If this game was set in Wonderland with fluffy chicks (that’s the animal kind…) as the characters... I’d still buy it. You know why? Because it appeals to me.

Look at Crash Bandicoot on the PlayStation, was that cuter than Miss. Spears in a bikini? Yes. Was that a brilliant game that nearly everyone loved? Yes. Did they care that the main character looked like something out of Playdays? No.

Does it really matter that some people have the opinion that the PS2 is better than everything else on the market? No. It’s their opinion that they’re entitled to. It’s a free country, so they’re allowed to disillusion... I mean carry that opinion with them.

Do their opinions that the PS2 is better than the soon-to-be-released GameCube make me want to change my mind and spend my cash on the PS2? No. Why? Because the PS2 doesn’t appeal to me. The GameCube does.

People always fight about the console wars, about who’s going to win. Do you want me to tell you who’s going t win?

Then I shall tell you, not the PS2, not the GameCube and not the Xbox. The gamers are going to win because they will have chosen a console that appeals to them. And if they would rather play that console then any of the others on offer who loses? No one does. The company have their money. The rival companies have THEIR gamers, and the gamer has their console. The console that they’re happy with and that appeals to them.

I'm not gonna tell you my ideas 'cos there good, and I want to use threm to get my foot in the door of the industry. By the way, has anybody got any tips advice, information etc, on how to get the industry?

Rogue Squadron has been a bit of a let down for me...

If I'm supposed to be flying an aircraft/spaceship of some sort, I dont want pressing left or right to move the ship left or right... I'd rather it rolled the ship in the direction, so you could pull back on the joystick/joypad to turn in the direction...

Also, It seems to be excatly the same concept as the gmes it was making for the N64... and even Pentium1 PC's ... Id rather hoped they were bringing out an next step in the development rather than sticking flashy graphics on a game they released in 1993?

No, not because

Fair enough.
