The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
It's moronic, pathetic, and used by people who have no excuse.
I really think the forums will be a better place without it, and I expect also that many people will agree. If you want to repeat something, CTRL C, CTRL V, you've done it for the reviews, so why can't you do it for a sodding line?
Please, really, this would make a hell of a difference.

Had girlfriend - fiancee actually. She got nasty (not in a good way), broke up, got console, realised console cheaper/requires less maintenance, no steady girlfriend since. Bliss.

I'm 20 so you can tell me!
Realise this doesn't matter.
Or is that get game/buy girlfriend?
I forget now.
Tonight I shall be playing Wolfenstein for an hour, then going to the movies with meh woman and then you kids should probably go read something else now because you're under 16.

For example, Lord Semajal's message. :-)

Yes, but if you were quoting more than one section from a long post, it would soon become unclear. And suppose you wanted to quote a source from elsewhere - it wouldn't necessarily be clear if it were a general quote, or part of the original message.

And besides, '>' is a general net-wide indication of a quotation of a previous message.
Also, without the reply-quoting option, you'd have to cut and paste several parts of a long message - flicking back and forth between the original post and your message.
For a general reply, it's unnecesary - but as I said earlier, it's invaluable if you want to discuss/rebuff/argue a number of specific points from a previous post.
Maybe it would be better if, rather than campaigning for its removal, you educated people in how to use it properly! :-) I admit it's bloody annoying when someone quotes a massive post just to add one line to the end of it, but I still consider it far too useful to do away with.

The only

i concur.
"Sure, you can cut & paste, but then it's not so immediately apparent which text is quoted from the original message - and it's a pain manually typing '>' for each line. "
See what I did there? It took about 2 seconds.
I still reckon the reply with quote button is more trouble than it's worth, and is abused far too much.
