The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
It's moronic, pathetic, and used by people who have no excuse.
I really think the forums will be a better place without it, and I expect also that many people will agree. If you want to repeat something, CTRL C, CTRL V, you've done it for the reviews, so why can't you do it for a sodding line?
Please, really, this would make a hell of a difference.

I can't believe that I made a mistake then forgot was I was gonna say. I meant 30000 less words not 3000.

Good idea. That's what my forum does (no plug intended) - smaller text, in its own box-out.
And I agree - quoted text should not increase the word count... after all, the person quoting the text rarely wrote the original, so why should they get 'credit' for it?
And even if you are quoting your own message, you shouldn't get credit for repeating yourself!
> Does anyone really care about word counts?
Surely not...surely
SOme people do, the newbies espcially as they need it to become regulars.
One of them quoted a whole story in the story forum, and jsut added at the bottom "Sorry, just upping my word count." on to the end of a few thousand word piece.
By the way, you're tagline Goaty, been listening to "Speak and Spell with Stephen Hawkins", by any chance?
Surely not...surely
How about, quoted text appears in a smaller font than regular text, like many sites do?
That way, at least if someone does use it all the time, it's a lot easier to pick out the bits they've added.
Maybe it shouldn't add to the word count, either. That would stop a few people using it...
>... xxx .... xxx ... xxx
That`s a good point. I agree that people should do xxx, but on the subject of ... I can not agree as it suggests that xxx isn`t as good as .../ In other words if you take eee and mix it with ... you shouldn`t be left with xxx
>eee ... yyy ... xxx
Another good point, and I feel you are agreeing with me on the point about eee. Its a shame that yyy had to spoil eee, but at least xxx didn`t interupt this time.
>>>>> The above is what I call an acceptable use of the quote button. Ignore the actual words above as they were just an example. What it shows is that you can answer individual parts of questions, without having to introduce each bit at the beginning of each paragraph. It is very useful when used responsibly.

I agree. :-)
