Is Grand Theft Auto 3 the best game around for PS2. I surely think so, a lot come pretty close, but I don't think any have yet reached it. Have you seen the graphics!!!!????

Of course, what's 'hot' and what's 'not' is all down to opinion, but yeah, i'd have said so.
For me, the most appealing part of the game is the 'Mafia-esque' theme.... it isn't just a criminal game... if it were, you'd get bored, of just mugging, killing, and stealing... the fact that the game actually has a decent storyline, and a most believeable one to boot, is great!
What I like about the storyline is that it wouldn't really happen in real-life... but because of films like Donnie Brasco and The Godfather, people think it bears perfect resemblence to 'the perfect mafia storyline'.
I know the game isn't completely 'mafia stuff', but that's the general theme. It just goes to show that there are a number of adult gamers who don't mind this stuff... I know a lot of people didn't want it because of children, the theme, the fact it wasn't Nintendo, but there were plenty who did, and the game rewarded the masses with 'something for everyone'...
Don't believe me? Tell me what isn't in the game that could be... the only thing I can think of is being able to play basketball in the court on Staunton Island.... The radio stations are genius, the cars look fine, the draw-distance is amazing, the level maps are great, you're always having fun...
The only 'beef' I have with the game is that you can't go into many shops, and you can't get into the damn stadium! I know it'd be more coding, etc - but like Pro Evo, the game seems to be JUST short of perfect... But as for the title of 'Best Game Around' - I'd say it wins hands down!
