July 1st is just an early indication for the month in which SR expect the game to be released. It's not an official release date - if a game hasn't been given an official release date and SR want the game on their database for pre-ordering reasons or similar, they'll just put down the first of the month that they expect the game to be released on.

Don't get your hopes up, people. :-)

It is very VERY rare that games are released on a Tuesday (July 1st) and chances are, if Mario Kart is to be released on the first week of July, it would be July 4th (Friday).

According to the actors, that's the beauty of the game. It takes place parallel to the film, so to quote the actor of Ghost,
"As you see a scene with Trinity and Neo in the Hall, the game will see Ghost and Niobe in the bathroom while they are in the hall."

Not an exact quote, but that's what basically happens. It's all in the trailer.

How close are the storylines of the game and film then?

Is it worth holding back on getting the game so as to avoid spoiling the film?

Hmm, still with zelda and the likes about I doubt I'd be getting it too soon anyway.

Been trying to ignore the hype though, if it stinks it'd be a let-down, and if it rules.. well, the hype won't change how much it rules.

Yep that's another of the many media forms used to express the MAtrix world. 2 movies a animated DVD and a game... all based around the series but all telling their own storyline... that is why the game is oh so much more promising as it isn't totally based on the film!

I agree with everything there but I would expect surprises for Enter the Matrix. It is being made not just by shiny but the guys who make the film, the initial previews are all VERY positive and it may take up 3 Gamecube discs!

I've already bought (and sold) RF2 for the PS2, and although there was nothing you could easily criticise about the game, it was still dull. Lost Kingdoms 2 - don't really like using cards in RPGs, although I don't really know much about it. Anyways, I've already preordered Suikoden 3 and Xenosaga on import, so they should keep me busy when DVDboxOffice finally have them in stock. Hitman 2, I already have, and a great game it is too. Same for Burnout 2.

All the film based games I've bought don't seem that great - ususally the gameplay becomes stale and repetitive halfway through, like in Spiderman. The combat system that the developers are going on about seems to automatic to me - I can imagine the combo sequence - left + A, right + A, B - to do a left right punch followed by a sweep, for example.

I'm actually predicting Ikaruga to appear in the bargain bins quite soon after its release - I'm sure it's a great game (not being sarcastic), but I think its target audience is too small.

Skies of Arcadia - maybe. Possibly. Ok then, definitely.
