Ok, there is now GTA3 and Silent Hill 2 to make a PS2 worth owning.

I loved the 1st one. It traded Resident Evil's schlocky jump-tactics for an atmosphere of genuine unease and dirty fear.
The dark rooms, the skittering monsters, the genuine sense of dread as you walked through the school and hospital.
And now the 2nd one is out, and I've been playing it since 9pm.
All I can say is...*shudder* Foul, nasty little game.
Excellent stuff.

There are similarities to the 1st one.
The fog outside. But this time it's not to save processor power and keep areas whited out, the fog rolls and drifts in banks,it's there for atmosphere not to cloud the level of graphics.

Sound.
Creepy, eerie, evil and menacing.
The music is industrial clanks and low bell chimes, guttural growlings and snarls...raises the hairs on your neck like a demon, literally.

Graphics?
Amazing. A deliberately grainy, dirty, scuzzy feel but stunning.
A sense of menace and creeping death throughout the 2 locations I've been so far.

Monsters?
Ewwww...horrid mannequins with legs sewn onto the waist and it...well...glistens. Things with no arms or faces that chase after you and, I've only seen it once, this big thing with a red pyramid for a head.
Sounds rubbish, but you turn a corner and see it standing on the other side of bars and you scream and run away from it.
Even though it's just standing there, head down looking at you.

It's not jump-tactics (except for 1 bit so far), but it's the knowledge that as soon as the radio crackles, something is coming.
And, this made me ill but well-impressed, a character you meet is vomiting. But not movie-style vomiting, this dude is really going for it.
And you can just tell the voice-actor was jamming his fingers down his throat, it's too real to be pretend puking.

It's just nasty, dark, threatening and evil.
Exactly what I hoped it would be.

AND - if you get the 2-disc set,you get trailers, artwork, a making of featurette and a trailer, 5 mins long for Metal Gear Solid 2.
And that looks utterly incredible, footage I have never seen before of...well..you'll have to buy Silent Hill 2 to see MGS2 new footage.

If you like being unsettled by a computer game, if you like feeling genuinely nervous at the sound of a baby crying out?
Get this game.
If you like happy, nice games with cute things?
Buy a Nintendo, cos this is not appearing on a kid's console any time soon.

I'm going to quote you when Dringo and Game try to jump me in the dark (with a night light, obviously) and try to force me to accept that Nintendo aren't for kids.......

Not really. I have a PC, a ps2 at work and have just ordered a cube.

I do agree that this game sounds great though! There should be more games based on horror and dark eery settings. Luigi's mansion will fill the gap for now ;)

True.
I've got a PC and PS2, used to have N64.

It's definately an adult title. Not for porn or swearing or anything, but the presentation and emotions are not for the squeamish.
It's rated 15 which surprised me a lot, but there you go.

No, that wouldn't surprise me, most boards of classification still think that blatent gore is worse that pshcological fear and stuff.

I know which I find more disturbing, creepy music and suspense beats fleshy zombies any day.

I can't wait for the day they bring out a TRUE horror title. I doubt they will ever bring one where you are the killer ala scream tho :( ;)

Hey, I've not slept for ages! I just finished work (about an hour and a half ago), do you know what I did after work?

I took my sleep deprived crazy head to town (and that is literally), we wandered around for a bit and then accidentally bought Silent Hill 2!

Its funny really, the game cost exactly what I'd just earned on my last shift. How about that? Must be fate or something.

Now I have to decide whether to sleep or play?

Sleep or play?
Daddy or chips?

Plaaaay.

And enjoy the 1st section in the park.
Close your curtains and try not to break into a run when the growling starts.

But I'm tooooo tired.
I feel terrid (and thats not even a real word!)

I'm so tired I want to cry :-(

Ooh, but playing games is such fun and may make up for the lack of sanity in my emails.

Silent Hill 2, there's a whack-load of MGS2 trailers on the double-disc and if you want ZOE with demo, I'll sell it to you for £10.

Because I don't like ZOE (just bought it for demo) so it's mint condition with receipt.
