Its getting really out of hand, there is no longer a topic here that does not include spam, all the time topics turn to chat and this should not be the place to do that. Its a disscusions forum, not chat. If you want to chat, go to FOG Chat, or get MSN.
Im not just focussing on a few here, there are quite a few people who do this, but again im not going to mention names. All i ask you to do is one thing, before posting, ask yourself, Is this post really worth the bother? That way, half the crap that is posted here daily will disapear, and we might get back to what the forum is suppose to be about, disscussions.
If you really feel the need to chat here, then go to the longest thread and chat there, but still dont spam to the extent that has happened today, and the past few days, with lots of posts that are just one word long. To any newbies out there, your reputation aint gonna dramticly improve because of your new regular status, because we will remember you for how you got that status.
This problem has been around for ages, and the way things were going, it may not have been able to be fixed. I have been doing some 'tests' recently by doing some gaming topics in this forum, all a fairly long posts. Out of say, 20 regular posters here, there must have been only 2 decent replies to these topics, and the rest just spam leaning away from the topic. Some of you may think this is a load of rubbish, and there is no problem with the forum, but there is, and i know im not the only one who thinks this. If only you had been in this forum and a year or more ago, or when just the PS1 was about, there were some excellent posts here.
The people who posted then, many have gone and been replaced by a new generation of posters who sadly dont take the place as serious as they use to. And this can be seen as some of the more respected posters no longer spend much time here as they use to, people such as Wookiee, ssxpro, resi and more. Its even starting to drive me away.
All im asking is that it stops, or dramaticly decreases from now on. Lets have some good topics and disscusions in here, and try and keep them from spam longer after they were started, if not at all. The fact is, this topic may make me as popular as a Ninty, but i dont care, the forum is a spam heaven, and its up to you to change it.
Still, having said that, there are some good posters in here too, who deserve some credit for what they post, its just a shame that more crap posts than good ones over shadow these people.

I have to admit, I don't think the situation has been helped by SR changing the URL to UKchatforums.com - and also the little link at the top has changed from "Open forums" to "Chat rooms".
How about, if you want to have a main *discussion* thread about a particular game or other topic, with minimal chat or spam, you create a thread with "DISCUSSION: " at the front of it. For example...
DISCUSSION: SSX Tricky
Also, if you like, the very first line of the post can be something like "SERIOUS DISCUSSION ONLY - PLEASE STAY ON-TOPIC"
You could then allow a small amount of chat and deviation from the topic, before giving people a polite reminder by quoting their message and simply adding "Please try to remain on-topic". If that doesn't work, you can flame them! ;-)

thats what Im talking about, it happened with my SD3 topic to. i happened with GT3, and im sure we will see a repeat soon when games like, tony hawks 3, ssx tricky, jak and daxter, silent hill, iss etc are released.
that must be why the game forums dissapeared, as everyone was just making hudreds of posts about the same game here, when we only need one.

This also happened with the release of GTA3 i wrote a topuc about it and then once it came every one ignored it and put
"GTA3 i drove a car"
"GTA3 i am on the second island"
" GTA3 i shot some one"
why do we need this? i think we should have one topic for each game coming out and ignore the Spammers by reporting their messages

The forums are here to show your interest on gaming and basically to have a chit-chat, the people who misuse the opportunity shouldn't be here.

The rules thing is a good idea on paper, but first you have to get members to respect it, and get the staff to either agree with it and take the time to ban people, or give that power to say a notable who uses the forum the most.
Also, you say its mainy newbies who spam, thats true across the site, but a little wrong here. There are quite a few spammers here who are regulars im afraid.

the newbies mainly spam, to increase their stats and become a regular. Whats so great about being a regular? Maybe SR need to change the newbie - Regular process and make it that you have to be hear for a certain amount of time before coming a regular, and dump the whole word thing.
Theres millions of places on the web where people can go and chat, so if they want to spam, why dont they go to one of those. they probably come here because of the gad and fad competitions, which drew me hear and probably drew most of you lot in to. They write pointless, stupid and just annoying topics, the come on the next day and complain that they dont win.

Yeah i agree with you, the sapmming is getting worse on this forum, with people posting one word replies to get their post count up, its not what they are for, they are for posting useful topics, not having conversations, like pro said there are a lot of good quality posts on these boards and its a shame its probably seen as more of a chatroom than a forum about playstation2, i hope we still continue to get quality posts and i'm sure we will as some of us have been here a while and are excellent writers for gad winning topics, if we can at least cut down on the pointless posts then it will be a better place, thanks, and happy ps2 gaming :-)
You are right Dame. I am totally with you. This has been said many times before and I am going to say this again-the general quality of posts on this forums is falling well below average. Thereare many good people on here who know what they are talking about and are prepared to come up with excellent arguments. But some people (I know who you are talking about dame) just dont bother to make an effort and are turning the forums into chat rooms.

People who come heer and start writing pointless crap and in most cases just annoy those who are willing to talk serious stuff.
I just think that we should all start thinking about what we are doing and begin to write good interesting posts so that everyone can contribute, get advice and still have a nice time.
