Hi folks,

Hope someone can help me out here..Is it possible to add a picture file to a sample folder of my website and then be able to show this picture on a post thread on another forum (so that the viewer can see the image when they browse the posts on the particular forum?)

The only way i have been able to do this is to add a link on the relevant page of my site and then copy and paste this image link on the other forum.

I have tried adding an image form my ftp but it just wont allow the pic to be displayed on the other forums, if i add a live link it asks the viewer for my username and password login details....

any help would be greatly appreciated

cheers

Hmm... not sure I'm clear what the problem is. :)

If you upload an image, for example test.jpg to your samples folder. You can derive the URL quite easily yourself. The URL for this would be
http://www.doogs-tutorials.com/samples/test.jpg

You dont need to create a link on your website to access this URL or use it on another forum.
I'm not clear if you understand this or not? There seems to be alot of talk about copy and pasting links as though its the only way you can get links to your images.

yeah the link in my last post was to a post that had an image from my old domain..
What i need to be able to do is to copy/paste a link to a screenshot image from my new domain ,without having to physicaly add a link to my web page... in other words copy/paste the link via the domain FTP samples directory.. sorry if i am not making it clear...LOL i am trying my best here...LOL
what i have to do at the momment is this.. http://www.doogs-tutorials.com/photoshop.html look at the templates section and then the box containing "menu created using mostly brushes"

Thanks for all the replies.. they are very much appreciated by me... :-)

I can't see any reason why you won't be able to use images on your new site in the way. Are you sure you are getting the syntax correct?

i.e. The image should link to http://www.doogs-tutorials.com/images/header.gif for example.

Tim: The example forum Doogs gave is the working one, using his old domain ;¬)

Am I missing something? When I follow that link I see all the images apart from ASH's avatar.

thanks for the reply, here is a link to an image showing on the other forum (taken from my old site).. http://www.wrigleyvideo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=25554

I think I may have found the problem... the above image link was taken from the FTP index shortcut and pasted into the forum... i think that i am unable to to that with my domain as i have a .index file on it (the other website didn't.

I have tried to copy and paste the image file shortcut through my freeola login on here.. so perhaps its that that is causing the problem..???

Cheers

Hi Doogs, if you're are still having a problem with this can you post links to the before and after posts on the relevant forum?

I'm assuming the problem is with the Doogs address in your profile? I've found a few references to this and your older addresses in forums, but havn't managed to find a post where the image is displayed (using your previous addresses).

I can't think on any restriction in place regarding hotlinking to Freeola images so can only think it's something silly going on.

The other forum allows the poster to post images, as i used to do that with pics from my old site.. it's only since moving to my own dot com domain (freeola hosted) that this problem has surfaced....

This all depends on what the forum application and the owner allows.
As you've seen Freeola's bespoke forum software doesn't allow images to be displayed. Some forum's will allow images, some won't - you'll need to read up on what each forum allows/provides.

Can't you just add the picture to your folder and then link to it in the forum, e.g.:

... ?
