Hi folks,

Hope someone can help me out here..Is it possible to add a picture file to a sample folder of my website and then be able to show this picture on a post thread on another forum (so that the viewer can see the image when they browse the posts on the particular forum?)

The only way i have been able to do this is to add a link on the relevant page of my site and then copy and paste this image link on the other forum.

I have tried adding an image form my ftp but it just wont allow the pic to be displayed on the other forums, if i add a live link it asks the viewer for my username and password login details....

any help would be greatly appreciated

cheers

Doogs

I see you spelt jpg, jpeg in that note!? I know it sounds rude of me ;¬) but you are spelling it jpg when you try the image?

Can you take a screenshot of your 404 page and post a link to it?

EDIT - just seen your edit - perhaps I wasn't too rude ;¬P

DUH...... what a DIPSTICK i am....... I have been unable to see the WOODS because of the TREES.... have got it sussed now.. the file extension I have been using to view the URL was [B]"TEST.JPEG"[B] when infact it should have been [B]"TEST.JPG"[B] (no "e")

I shall now go and stand in the corner for a very, very long time and consider myself being told off...

thanks to one and all who replied....

Hmmm.. well OK.. the link did display my header.gif...

I am still getting the 404 error file not found when i type in the URL for the test image.jpeg, even though i have typed it in character by character as it is on the physical website link that works.. sorry.. but i don't use firefox on my system..I have also closed down my agnithium firewall (which does have an AD blocker on it), but this has made no difference at all...I may be doing something wrong somewhere.. but i am dammned if i know what!!!!

Have just typed in the URL for the test image using my wife's computer (using IE7) and this has displayed the 404 error also.. so i know now it can't be my system...seems to be a bit of a puzzler this one..

regards

The image displays fine for me as well Doogs.

If Garin's IE adblocker idea doesn't sort things out can you try this:

Earlier I mentioned using this sort of syntax: http://www.doogs-tutorials.com/images/header.gif (which is the same as your sample) can you http://www.doogs-tutorials.com/images/header.gif to see if you view your header image? I just want to make sure there isn't some sort of typo thing going on.

If you can see your header, then you must have a typo/syntax problem. If you still can't see your header (using IE or FF) then it's something else! ;¬)

More>> I've just found your post on the video forum you mentioned and can find your new link/image - it displayed fine for me there as well. So the good news it's not Freeola as your first thought, lets hope Garin's right with the ad-blocker idea...

The link works fine in both IE6, IE7 and Firefox for me. I can type it into the browser bar without any problems at all.

You might try another browser besides IE7, eg Firefox. It might be something like an ad blocker/virus protector being over zealous but I'd expect more consistent behaviour than what you're getting if it was.

Once again thanks to all who have replied to this on going problem.

If you visit this link...
http://www.doogs-tutorials.com/samples/test.jpg
it will show an image that i have put on the video forum (this is the link taken from the physical link i have had to add to my photoshop page of my site).
However, if you type this URL into your browser (i am using IE7) and hit enter, then you will get the "page cannot be displayed" message, I have just tried this and thats what happened. But in essence both links are exactly the same...I must admit here that i am not at all HTML savvy, but this problem is doing my head in...

Regards

Ok, I think we'd really benefit from seeing one of these links that doesnt work.

If you can, start from scratch. Upload a new image. Try to put it on the forum again. If its not working, show us the code/url you've used.

nope.. that don't work... have tried that, all i see on the video forum is a small white box with a red X inside of it.. i have to click on the link on my website and copy the shortcut in order for the picture to show up...I know that I shouldn't have to do it that way.. but that is the only way i can get things to work....
