My line has been dropping and resyncing every few minutes since the beginning of the month.
I've tried the Test socket, no difference. I've tried double filtering, removing the Sky box. No difference. I've tried my standby router, no marked difference. I even went and spent £60 on a brand new Belkin F5D8636-4 v2 yesterday. The lines *still* dropping, although the resyncs seem to be connecting faster.
BT say they can't find any fault on the line.
I have asked Freeola to invoke a stability option on my line to see if that makes any difference.
Could my ethernet cables be responsible for the line drops? I haven't yet tried swapping those out.
Could my software firewall cause the router to resync?
Any ideas (at all)?

I've noticed that my output power *appears* to be recovering...
Data rate(Kbps)
6880Kb 960Kb
Noise Margin
16 11
Output power(dBm)
126 199
Attenuation(dB)
26 14
It was hovering around the 119/199 mark but has been 126/199 for a while. My sync rates *appear* to be slowly recovering too. My IP is still 5500 though.
I've never heard of the quiet line test (BT have said they can't find a fault).
Also, have you tried calling the BT quiet line test and having a listen yourself?
I've found DriverMax (Agent) pretty good so far, apart from one driver which I've caught, which was no good.

Yes, Neil I do.....I have Realtek aswell.....and don't rely on DriverMax :¬(
The stats I'm picking up are NM (Rx/Tx), Sync speed (Rx/Tx),Att (Rx/Tx). I can also select Output Power (Rx/Tx), but not collecting that at present. The NM is quite steady at about 16/12 or there abouts. Sync hovers at about 6848Kb/960Kb. The Att is around 26/14.
The system log says general stuff like:

The router firewall log is blank.
I mentioned previously that I tried the Test socket.
And to answer your last point - I'm not happy with any of it right now. I don't know what's causing it.

I've used RouterStats with many router not officially 'listed'. As long as you tell RouterStats where the statistics page is you can select the sync, SNRM, CRCs, etc. etc.
If you've 'fudged' it - what data are you collecting? ...and if it's SNRM, errors, sync etc. what does it 'look' like?
Anything in your router logs?
Have you monitored things as I suggested with ONLY your router connected?
EDIT: And are you happy(sic) that it's your ADSL/router dropping sync/connection and not your PC?
[s]Hmmm...[/s] There is nothing connected to my master socket/faceplate. When you remove the faceplate, it comes right off. I have no extensions.
Done the test socket test a long time ago.
I use RouterStats, but its a bit of a fudge as I have to manually configure the Belkin as it isn't listed (F5D8636-4 v2 (01)). I haven't figured out how to telnet the router, as that would be useful.

Going back to basics...
Are you happy your BT Master Socket is correctly wired? When you remove the faceplate to reveal the TEST socket - do ALL your phone extensions stop working? If any still work then your Master Socket (NTE5) is incorrectly wired.
Assuming everything is correctly wired then I would connect ONLY my router to the TEST socket. If you have the appropriate lead (RJ11 > BT) then you don't need an ADSL filter as you don't have any phone equipment connected so there is nothing to filter. If you don't have the correct lead then use a filter but only plug your router in.
Now monitor your line stats. See my previous post regarding RouterStats - free software that I highly recommend.
You can now monitor your error count and SNRM to see if these are causing your loss of sync.
Perhaps you can also post an extract from your router log in case that should help?
Re. your questions about Ethernet cables and firewall - none of these will make any difference if your router is losing ADSL sync!
I assume by now you are happy that it's the ADSL that's dropping and not issues with your PC?
