Mrs WBG here.

I've downloaded some designs which, when positioned on one of my InstantPro skyscrapers, show as having a square white background. On contacting the Artist she said the background should be transparent and that it must either be due to my browser or the method I used to 'save'.
Feeling none the wiser I did manage to find out that 'jif ' format was not good news,so changed it to 'jpg'.
But the white square is still present. What am I to do?
Is this question ok for Freeola?

You can't change the format without breaking the transparency of the original!

A similar problem is occurring when use use InstantPro's image 'tool' to resize the image as it changes the format.

You need to insert the original image but say NO to the Skyscraper resizing 'offer' if you are inserting directly into a Skyscraper.

Then after the image has appeared on your page, 'click it' which will reveal 'resizing handles' at the corners. Drag these to resize the image as required. This will retain the original format.

I've added a Skyscraper to my test page for you: Freeola test page showing working and broken images.

Resizing images like this isn't ideal (you are always best resizing using a graphics package with the original image source) but seems to work ok for your chosen image.

Hope that all makes sense to you :¬)

My steps re downloading and saving etc are exactly as yours.
I've got copies of the image in jpg.png. and gif but have restricted my use to the gif image.
I've uploaded it to a blank page and it appears to be transparent but as soon as I go through the process of transferring it to my skyscraper,it develops a black background. This background appears after I've resized and gone to 'insert'. I just can't suss what I'm doing wrong! But I'm going to get rid of all the stored images and download a fresh one.
What do you think?

I've used the image you're interested in as a test for you and it seems to work fine. I've put the image on a page with a red background so that you can see it's transparent: InstantPro test page

Don't try to change the file format - as we said at the beginning, this image needs to stay as a .GIF

I'm saving the image from the website by doing a right-hand click and using 'save picture as'. Then inserting the image using the InstantPro Image icon.

Perhaps you can say what steps you are using?

I downloaded pixlr and yes I realised it didn't need to be installed.

It's both impressive and intimidating for me.

I've downloaded quite a lot of free images from the following site and most of them show either a black or white background when uploaded to WBG's site.

http://www.aon-celtic.com/cfreeware.html

You need to go to clip art, then 'animals' where you'll find the first image to be of dolphins. Underneath that is a circle of dragons which is the one I'm trying to use.

WBG's site isn't life yet so won't be able to make a link-will I?

I really appreciate your help and advice

I am so very sorry that this happened....the Ask Toolbar can be rejected on install and the option I suggested is available without 'nagging' mesages :¬((

What s/w did you end up downloading?

Reading your other post you un-installed DL's suggestion due to all the ads/nags etc.

My link pointed to using pixlr which is a free online graphics editor - i.e. there's nothing to install.

Can you supply a link to the transparent image you are trying to use if it's from a free source and I'll take a look.

And/Or are you able to link to your own InstantPro site in case that helps?

I downloaded Photoplus but had to have Ask toolbar and default search engine which I wasn't happy about! But the main put off was that every time I clicked anything a message came up saying option was only available on Photoplus Pro.Ads urging you to buy Photoplus Pro kept appearing filling half the screen ( well so it seemed) so I had to uninstall.
Thanks anyway for suggestion.
