Nintendo's second parties are companies Nintendo have a stake in, first parties are companies Nintendo own. Nintendo own there 3/4 R&D departments, Intelligent Studios and Retro Studios. That's 5/6 development houses (i say that because the new R&D department isn't up and running yet). Now it takes us months to learn of new Nintendo aquisitions. It took us ages to discover Silicon Knights were a Nintendo second party and it took us just as long to learn about Retro.
In fact the confirmation about Camelot took nearly a year. Nevertheless rumours have started again about Factor 5. The company made Rogue Squadron and Battle for Naboo, the best STar Wars games, exclusive to the N64... we presumed that meant Nintendo had a claim in them... Star Wars is after all a big name. No, it seems Factor 5 merley prefered Nintendo because Rogue Squadron was later released for the the PC. Then Factor 5 announced a mutliformat game called Thornado. Now though with Factor 5 being responsible for the sound chip MusyX and developed Roge Leader and cancelling Thornado rumours began again... and Nintendo recently mentioned amongst their release list is Rogue Squadron 3... is this just because they're publishing it? Do Nintendo have a stake in Factor 5? And more to the point if Factor 5 is only making games for Nintendo doesn't that make them a second party anyway?
The second new second party (groan) is supposidly Treasure. Miyamoto denied he was making Wario's World but refused to say who was only saying "It's our new second party!" well a year later it turns out to be Treasure. Yep the guys behind Ikargu and Radient Silvergun... those cult classics that make theim without a doubt one of the best developers in the world. Is Treasure a Nintendo exclusive company?
God it's just a load of good news or possible good news this week.
For me Whitestripes meant GOD.
This line is the best thing I've read in years:
"Solid Snake's personality could fit in an egg cup and still leave room for the egg"
It's also the name of the pilot of the Ikaruga fighter plane.
I hope Treasure are Nintendo exclusive.
I hope they port Radient Silvergun to the GC as well.
