I really want broadband, but the family money limit is very low. But, i can still dream, and with your help it will make it a lot easier on my behalf. So, just a few questions:

~ Who are you with?

~ I'd prefer if you were paying monthly, but how much do you pay?

~ Did you have to buy a modem, if yes, how much was it?

If you help me out, i might be playing SOCOM US Navy SEALs online in the next few months.

Danke.

Hmm, i'm not very good with all this, but i'll state my position. Alot of people around my area have broadband, but i don't know of anyone who has it down my road. As for telewest, i think we tried to get it, or atleast somekind of cable T.V, and they said that we would have to go through the neighbours front-garden to get to the point in our house. So, i don't think cable is a posibility, just something that goes through the phoneline.

Yeah it is 600k

No idea about the cost as I didn't pay it and it was quite a while back now. :-)

At the moment I think all cost around the same.
No idea if and when the price will drop. As I said though there may be some deals when the on-line gaming thing kicks off so you may want to wait to see who offers what and also what suits you.

Also do you live in an area where you have a choice? Ie do you get ntl or telewest?

NTL do a 600k service for £25!
1MB for £35
150k service for £17.99

All installations are free and include everything.

Well, they were free a few months back.

Yeah the bit about ntl. They are offering a PS2 package (according to my PS2 magazine) which includes a router to allow you to run your PS2 and PC at the same time.

I have a broadband router at the moment for my network and would advise using one if possible so that might be something to consider. Especially if you have more than one PC you want to go on-line with.

Hmmm, i'm with BT at the moment, and yes, i do want to go online with my PS2. FM's convinced me after reading about SOCOM :D The prices you've said are cheaper than BT, and you also have to pay £50 for a modem with BT, but instalation is free. I would prefer if the price was around £20 or less, but i'm sure that no company offers this at the moment. Do you have any clues of when broadband prices may drop?

Are you wanting to go on-line with your PS2?

If so I think a few companies might be doing special deals for that. NTL for one I think.

I'm with NTL. £25 a month for 512K and £50 for the modem and instalation I think.

£25 a month for a 512k broadband connection (always on, unlimited surfing etc). It's normally £35 a month but my phone service is with the same company so I get a discount.

Nope, that came as part of the initial setup. Installation cost £50.
