Just wondering cause i might get a PS2 bundle, and this memory card is in it.
It doesn't work with Burnout either.
This is getting beyond a joke seeing as I purchased this memory card a little while ago, but obviously cannot buy games beforethey're released, BUT Special Reserve say that because I have had this card for over a month, they cannot refund or replace it.
Surely this company should have some clause in their contract when purchasing non-Sony products that claim to be compatible when they end up not being so.
This is a rip off.
I also see that Dixons are now selling this Mega Memory 16 card but without the CD case for that damn memory manager that is required to use the memory card. I couldn't quite see if there was a memory manager CD included in this packaging though - it may have been in a cardboard sleeve instea.
ANYWAY, steer away from this card unless they have resolved the issues of INCOMPATIBILITY.
Yours truely...
One pi55ed off Mr Anderson ;-(
The memory card works like no other. You HAVE to use the memory cards driver CD whenever you want to use the memory card, regardless of the capacity you want out of it (16MB or 80MB).
This may be OK for GT3 (the only game I've tried with it so far) but for the SONY DVD Upgrade (Driver 2.01 or something like that) where you have to copy the 2.2MB of driver from the CD (comes withthe remote) to your memory card its a different matter.
When the DVD upgrader software boots up, the memory card driver software (necessarry to access the memory card at all times) is removed for the PS2 system memory, either via a software-reset or it's simply not a Terminate-Stay-Resident piece of code (therefore no longer running) and the DVD upgrade software cannot locate a 'SONY 8MB Card'. There seems to be absolutely no way round this.
Whichever way you look at it, this memory card is not totally compatible with the PS2and SONY Products given the facts-
1. Start up the PS2 with the memory card manager software to enable using the memory card.
2. Other products can remove the memory driver software running from boot up - e.g. SONY DVD Upgrade driver
3. most probably more incompatibilities I've not yet come across.
If this simple DVD upgrade software won't work, how many more pieces of software, Games/Operating Systems/Whatever... will not be compatible in the future.
Who knows ... other than DATEL and SONY !!!
Near on £30 is alot of money to gamble on if this is to be your only memory card.
I'd be quite happy for an exchange with an official SONY 8MB card and loose the difference. At least I know I'd have a fully compatible device that should be guaranteed to work with other SONY products.
Cheers
Mr Anderson
Unofficial memory cards for both PS1 and PS2 are notorious for losing and/or corrupting data. Stick with the official 8mb cards.
