...do they justify this?

Office XP Standard Edition ... £410

Office XP Standard Edition for Students/Teachers ... £104

These aren't SR prices, because SR don't have Office XP listed yet.

I know all abuot student discounts, but that price difference extracts the urine on a grand scale!

Sure it is... OfficeXP is designed for businesses... so they charge higher prices...

Further education students are more likely to get office jobs... and so getting them to prefer MS products over an potential cometition is always useful for future versions?

Look at it this way, Microsoft have to shift huge volumes of Windows XP until everyone is using it. Therefore at £410 they can make a profit. Everyone knows that students can't afford a pint of lager let alone £410 for an operating system, and that teachers work for a pittance and are in the same boat as students, therefore, if Microsoft don't let them have it at a price they can afford, they won't shift any units at all, which will result in them not having as complete a global domination with XP as they would like.

Ah yes but think of the Student Loans, they don't exactly make after student life any easier.

Hahaha.

The joys of being a student.

Check this one out Wookiee:

At uni I had to use some software called Xilinx, don't know if anyone here has heard of it? Anyway, full retail version was about £350.

Student version - exactly the same in every way, BTW, was £45.

Or, you could buy a book on Digital Electronics, and get the full version (but without any documentation) for £30.

I love being a student sometimes....

410 to 104?

It's part of a clever number anagram pricing policy.

I wonder if I can buy a house that way?

From £92 000 to

£20 009.

I'm sure I could get a mortgage for that.
