I have uploaded or think I have my web pages with FTP. I tried Cute but couldnt work it out, so have uploaded to FTP Now. My web pages are all there on the right hand side. The stupid thing now is I cannot find how to get into my website. Do I have to do anything else, like upload it onto the freeola site, if so how, I have had a look at different things and cannot work it out. If I dont have to do anything else, what address do I need to put in to find my site. I have tried different things such as a mix of Freeola, my name, my password, but cannot find anything at all.
Please help. I am completely stuck and have been on this all day, trying to work it out.

You need to open your ows file using Web Studio and use the "Save Page To Internet" command to produce html files.

Once you've done that you need to FTP them (the html files) to your htdocs folder. You only need the ows file on your PC not the internet.

Don't give up now, you're nearly there!

Hi Thanks again for your continued support, and the information you have found out for me. However I have saved the files from Web Studio, by saying "save website to internet". It saved all my files and when I go into the site through web studio, it shows a web sign, which must mean that it is ready to upload, I should think.
As I am in the process of giving it up as a bad job, is there a way you can copy, this site onto another existing site that I have already on the internet. I have two sites which I did exactly the same way on Web Studio, and these are available on the internet, if I could just add this site to one of my others, maybe that would be the solution.
Thanks for your help again.

Hello. I'd never heard of an ows file before, but a bit of poking around reveals it to be a Web Studio file (I've never heard of that application either!).

Anyway - the ows appears to be the 'raw' code for your site, not the actual web pages. You need to do a bit more, see below:

From webstudio.com:

We've seen confusion recently about files you create with Web Studio. It centers on the website and the WebStudio document file. Many aren't aware there’s a "document" file and think the "website" is what they're working on.
Just like Microsoft Word has document files that you create, save, open and print, WebStudio has a document file as well. Word's document file is called a "doc" file because its file extension is ".doc". A file extension is the last three letters appended to file by a program.Web Studio's document file is an "ows" file, a file extension of ".ows".
When you create a new site in WebStudio, you are creating an OWS file. When you choose Save Site or Save Site As from the File menu, you’re saving the OWS file; the document file. It is just like saving a "doc" file in Word. When you open your site in WebStudio, you open the OWS file. The File menu commands deal with the OWS file.
Where's the website? The website doesn't exist until you tell WebStudio to create it by choosing Save WebSite to Internet command. Choosing Save Page To Internet and Preview Page creates a single page of your site. The website is made up of many files, not a single one. To create the site, Web Studio takes the contents of the OWS file and creates the files needed for the website. The WebSite menu deals with the website files.

Still having problems, I have read your previous notes and the advice given which you have kindly given me. So I started again on Cute FTP. I have on the right column of Cute htdocs. Click in this and I see ClifftoUSA1.ows, my web site, and index.html. So shouldnt I be able to see this on Freeola now?

Hello,
Did you read my notes earlier about index files ?
My post also points to a Freeola guide that should explain things - you need to read all of it...

If you can see CliffToUSA listed in htdocs then it sounds like you are getting somewhere. Your browser is expecting to see an index file in htdocs, to find the data in CliffToUSA you would need to point directly to the relevant files.

If you're still having trouble (after reading the above mentioned guide) can you post your web address if you want more help?

Problem with downloading files. I have determined now my web site name and in there I should have my site. The problem now is there are now files there, so I need to upload my files. So, tell me if I am doing something wrong. I go into internet explorer, upload your website button, click on this. Up appears FTP root at Freeolaweb8.freeola.net.
Listed in this is Directory CliffToUSA
Underneath 60,236,288 CliffToUSA.ows
Then another site because I tried again -
Directory ClifftoUSA1
Underneath 59,996,672 CliffToUSA1.ows
Then Directory cgi-shi
Directory ht.docs

I click on htdocs and get
64,331,776 CliffToUS

It says then to open site FTP window and drag and drop into FTP browser you previously opened, where is this, as I don’t see anything.. I have clicked on open FTP in Explorer, but doesn’t make any difference.

What am I doing wrong, it appears that all my documents are there but I cant transfer them onto the Freeola site for some reason? Please help, as I am going round in circles here.

I would have thought if you give Freeola your 'sr' account number (the one you use when you FTP) they can tell you your site address.

I am being a right pain arent I. I Have looked into My Freeola and there are no web sites listed for me, but that is probably because I have not done it that way by putting it straight onto Freeola because I already had my site down, so just needed to upload it. I have done it before through Orange and didnt have this problem because Orange told me what name to use to access my site. The FTP I used is Ipswitch FTP and FTP Now. I have my web sites listed on both of these and I have used freeola as my FTP Host Address, which is freeolaweb8.freeola.net. I have typed in my user name and password onto these FTP sites. So now what do I do?

Hmmm...

I take it you are using a 'free' name, or hopefully you would know the name!

Where are you FTPing your data to? Your FTP application needs to know the address so it must be there.

Login to your MyFreeola account. On the left hand-side click 'My websites' - have you any addresses listed???
