Sony Computer Entertainment today announced the establishment of a special "Mega Hits" series of PlayStation 2 software in Japan, comprised of games whose exceptional sales (more than 500,000 units) warrant their re-release at a lower price point. Similar to the American Greatest Hits series for the PlayStation, whose Japanese counterpart was known as "PlayStation THE BEST," the "Mega Hits" line will drop the most popular PS2 games to around 4,000 yen (in comparison to about 6,000 when they were first released). The price drop will begin on December 13.
The games included are:
Gran Turismo 3 A-spec -- 12/13 -- 4,200 yen
Tekken Tag Tournament -- 12/13 -- 3,980 yen
Onimusha -- 12/20 -- 3,980 yen
Importers may be slightly interested, perhaps if they prefer the Japanese GT3 tunes. This program does not apply to the US market, of course, although SCEA may be expected to institute a similar program in the future.
