Well? Does Anytime really mean anytime? You tell me. Maybe the two emails I have just recieved from Tiscali (wasn't a fake...) is just a scam to try and get me to sign up for their Broadband service.

Here goes.

"Dear Gary Broughton

Important Information about your Internet Access

We notice that you have had extremely high usage (over 150 hours a month) on your AnyTime package every month for the last three months. Unfortunately your current level of usage is adversely affecting the service we can offer other users. Please ensure that you significantly reduce your usage (below 150 hours a month) or we will have no choice but to terminate your AnyTime access account at the end of the month (May 2003), in accordance with our terms and conditions.

You can view your Internet usage online at: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/members/myaccount/

Terminating your account will mean that you will not be able to use the Tiscali AnyTime number to access the Internet. Your email address and account will remain unaffected.

Alternatively, you can upgrade to one of our Broadband packages. This is the ideal solution for customers who are spending very long periods of time online offering unlimited, always on, high-speed Internet access - and it keeps your phone line free.

Tiscali Broadband is also great value for money with prices starting from ONLY £19.99 a month. Plus, if you upgrade to the 512kbps product before 13th May you will also get a free Broadband modem and free connection!

You can upgrade to Tiscali Broadband by calling us on 0800 195 1991 or by clicking on the link below:

http://www.tiscali.co.uk/members/myaccount/upgrade/

If you consider that your high Internet usage may be due to someone abusing your account, please email us on [email protected] to discuss the matter in more detail.

Yours sincerely,

Tiscali Customer Service Team

Obviously just trying to get me to sign up for Broadband...and I admit, I'm tempted...

Surely though, Tiscali are really using the wrong method of promotion for their Broadband services. They are basically forcing Braodband onto their customers, like they have tried to do to me. There is nothing that says I can't use Tiscali Anytime 56k for more then 150 hours. That's balls. Stupid really. Anyhoo...

Tiscali Broadband (256k)
Free Modem
£35 connection fee
£19.99 a month

Tiscali Broadband Plus (512k)
Free Modem
Free connection
£27.99 a month

I could probably afford £30 a month, but I doubt my parents will let me get it, as they know they would end up paying for it. But, free connection, not bad...Do these include Microfilters? I assume they do. I wouldn't mind getting the 10x faster then 56k deal, but I only have 6 days to make my decision. Hum, shall ask my mum and see if she can persuade my dad to let me get it. Afterall, it is true, I am online more then 150 hours a month. Probably. Anyway, thoughts on Tiscali and their promoting ways and thoughts on which package I should choose please.

Okay okay. Screw Tiscali. I shall email them complaining, before abusing my system and getting it cut off at the end of May. Before then, I shall have ordered Broadband.

“Anytime” rarely means “all the time” when it comes to dial-ups unfortunately.

It's just the way it is, nothing you can complain about, as any ISP with any sence will cover it in their terms.

£19.99 for BB though is very good value, though I can't comment on its reliability, it can't be any worse than any other provider.

Fecking Tiscali!

They've now sent me a letter stating that they shall close my account unless I come offline. Hello...ANYTIME! I'm getting Broadband soon, so who cares.
