I'll try to keep this short and sweet.

I bought the offical magazine yesterday and was quite dissapointed with the disc, I know they're only demos but the analysing is the worst, more commonly known as "jagged edges" :-(

Its seems to be out of the developers hands to get high resolution SHARP images out of the PS2 so who do you turn to, Sony made the thing lets ask them, When i finally got through here's basically what he said.

We're not quite sure how or why this happens because we don't fully understand the PS2 hardware. I do know of 2 Japanese software groups currently working on the problem, It can be fixed through the software which is why some games are better than others so if the graphics driver is updated which will use the the PS2 in another way it will avoid the Jagged edges commonly seen in pretty much EVERY game out there, The only game I've seen up to now that has it perfected is Metal Gear Solid 2.

In Japan they have the hard drive and modem where you can download extra levels, games etc which allows this type of software to be easily accesible and if this software is installed on the PS2 bit like the DVD driver saved on your memory card when it's running along side the game it will no longer be a problem.

Sweet mother of all that is good and pure (and anti analysed)

before you get too exited I'd just like to remind you that the HDD and modem aren't out here for a little while although he did say they are currently testing it's online capabilities here in the U.K :-)

I don't know if i've said it right and I've probably missed some technical mumbo jumbo out but it will soon be a thing of the past, I think i speak for everyone here when I say WOOHOO :-)

Its not that they/i cant hack it. We think the games are good and have enjoyed the past ones and enjoy the new one. Just becasue we desagree with you dont mean we cant 'hack' it.

You have your own opinion, and thats fine, and we should all be able to have our own opinions, which we do, and in this case we dont agree with you.

And there is nothing wrong with that.

lol @Kingklik

Look as much as I love the PS2 and it's games there is a clear problem, when it was launched in Japan people said Ridged Racer 5 and Tekken Jag Tournement and there were probably right. Volition the people behind summoner & Red faction fixed the problem in a day dunno how but it is fixable.

I think when it goes online they'll be patches and stuff.

"The PS2 *can* anti-alias graphics quite easily - but some developers don't seem to bother with it."

LOL, I doubt that's the case very much. Imagine it...

Programmer:'Hmm, game X looks really crap at the mo. There's so many damn jaggies that you can barely make out that bad guy 5 metres infront of you.'
Lead Programmer:'Hang on, I've got an idea, let's use anti-aliasing to eliminate this graphical ugliness!'
Programmer:Hmmm, well it is 10.30 and the wife wants me home before 11, so I really can't be a*sed.'
Lead Programmer:'Oh, OK, let's just leave it then.'

What I heard is that using the PS2's built-in anti-aliasing capabilities seriously affects clock cycle performance (i.e. the game crawls along).
The way developers like Rockstar are getting round this is by using specialised Shareware like Criterion's Renderware.

There's nothing wrong with the PS2 graphics, or the drivers.

Whoever you spoke to at Sony will just be some gimp hired to man the phones, and will have little or no technical info about the machine.

I e-mailed them some time ago, and the response I had was that TV's do their own anti-aliasing, so it wasn't necessary to put the feature in the hardware. That is absolute balls.

The PS2 *can* anti-alias graphics quite easily - but some developers don't seem to bother with it.

There are apparently a few ways of doing anti-aliasing. Some developers have said that it has a large performance hit, while others have said they managed it with practically no performance hit.

And anyway, there are games around that prove it can be done (such as Baldur's Gate and GT3) with no significant problems.
