Though Ive noticed that a lot of gamers whos life started from the NES/Master System, and especially SNES/Megadrive times tend to think that that is the time when gaming really began...

Often so far as to think that the popular gamestyles they enjoyed were unavalible before these times...

And that all time before then was a precurser to the SEGA, Nintendo onslaught...

Ive also noticed that people who got into gaming during the PS1s popularity often think that gaming only really started during the mid-ninties...

That games before then were simplistic and repetitive...

And that gaming was largly for kids and geeks, which enjoyed brief stints of popularity every now and then...

For me, gaming really got going in the late 70's, hitting its stride in the early eighties...

But that is definitly because of where and when I got ito gaming... the best times are obviously very personal experiences...

How about you?

When did gaming really start for you? ... and why?

And also... more interestingly... why is everyone else wrong?

Is 70's/80/s gaming a development time... a place where games were too simplistic and basic... and the industry was still a log way from figuring out where it wanted to go and how it was supposed to get there?

Was the NES/SNES/Master System/Megedrive years just a continuous series of platform games, shootemups, 2D fighters and Golden Axe style, walking along killing everything in your path using one key)... endlessly being churned out with the same gameplay, but different graphics?

Did the PS1+ gamers miss out on the best of the action? .. Getting in on corporate, souless gaming, where innovatrion is shunned in the name of the latests Fifa license... and gameplay is traded for graphics and profit?

Any ideas?

I disagree....sort of. Nintendo aim their games and consoles mainly at a younger audience, but thet're also created for older people to enjoy.

I think that after all the rivalry between who's better out of Sonic (Sega) and Mario (Nntendo) it's good to see the 2 starting to work together. Both have created great consoles and worked on great games over the years, and I think that things will only get better for the 2 companies. Especially with the technology of the GameCube, and the high popularity of the GameBoy Advance, they have only the sky as their limits!!

It is only the 'Team Sonic' are of Sega that's now working with Nintendo, not the WHOLE Sega team. This means there could still be the possibility of Sega creating their own next-generation console to compete with the Cube, the X-box and the PS2. But it's overall success rate would have to be much higher than the Dreamcast's (Sega's latest console). If this was to happen then it would need a similar success rate to that of the MegaDrive. Or maybe they could work on another hand-held console, following on from the GameGear while trying to compete with the GameBoy Advance.

Meanwhile, on the GameCube, Nintendo and Sega could work together on a massive challenge themed game, mainly focusing on the competition between Mario and Sonic. Possibly an adventure game, putting each charater's abillities and srengths to the test. And the overall winner (if any) would be anounced in the game's-ending, depending on such areas as work-rate, abillitie, overall tasks completed and the number of points achieved. This adventure-challenge could involve the 2 characters requiring to work together in a 2 player mode, with a possible link-up mode involving the GameBoy Advance.

I think this idea would certainly turn heads in favour of both firms. And would finally settle the neverending argument of who's better....Mario or Sonic???
