LOL, I always go to the website at school so I can swap PCs and get into the next room.

Metroid is a first person shoot-'em-up.

But it is also a first person adventure.

It is multi-genre.

TS2 is a great FPS, Metroid isn't an FPS and FF games are great.

Didn't think that much of the ts2 multiplayer...

Then again I'm not a great fan of FPSs anyway.

It's a game in the mould of an FPS, but has been developed with a unique approach.

An FPS is based around running around shooting and killing.

Metroid is based around backtracking and simple puzzle solving. Oh, and adventuring.

It's First Person, so that's the FP sorted out.

There is shooting, but the game doesn't make that the main element of the game, largely because it does most of the shooting work for you.
So calling it a 'Shooter' isn't really accurate.

I'd have to say it's a First Person Backtracker, FTB.

And FPS is the name given to a game playedin a first person perspective throughout the majority/entirety of the game, as well as firing some kind of weapon when the need arises.

But, in Doom there was a hell of a lot of backtracking to solve puzzles.

So, does that mean it isn't an FPS, but an FPB?

What I meant originally, is that no-one actually classes Metroid as an FPS, even though it, is (not) because it's unorthodox.
