THE LORD OF THE RINGS. A title of pure quality.
Originally begun in the 30's and scripted even before that in J.R.R. Tolkien's annals, in the early part of the 20th Century.
The popularity of this series slowly built its following until sometime in the 60's, when it became a cultural phenomenon throughout the world (yes, much like Harry Potter is now) that has maintained the never dwindling passion to this day. Considering the time scale it's quite extraordinary and simply amazing.
Recently, The Lord of the Rings has been voted the most popular novel of the twentieth century.
To this day, every fantasy novel and RPG Game contains the same basic framework as Frodo Baggin's adventure, being: 'A simple boy from a simple village or town discovers a great power and destiny he inherited', 'He goes on an epic journey to confront and destroy an evil', 'along the way meeting friends who will accompany him on his travel'.
Tolkien reflected one way or another that's for sure in the inspiration and thinking of many game's we have played, being even in Miyamoto's Zelda, heck even "Ganondorf" sound's familiar to Lord of the Rings "Gandalf".
Even at that, look at the familiar styles too that Zelda has to Tolkien's masterpiece, the choice of clothing, little people etc, just think about it, It doesn't just clutch to Miyamoto's masterpieces either, but the majority of RPG game's to this day.
Similarities doesn't end there though.
In the Lord of the Rings, there is of course the obligatory "rogue" character who is more than he appears, again sound familiar? and the powerful "mentor" father figure who shows him the way. As we learn in the book's, "Frodo"- the central character, is the simple boy of the story, who evolves into a hero along the way, ultimately fulfilling his role and realizing his true destiny.
This could be the synopsis for any number of fantasy works in gaming and in particular too- 'in the Film industry' (Star Wars comes to mind), but, The Lord of the Rings was there FIRST! and Tolkien has to be commended.
But as for the future Lord of the Ring's games, could Nvidia's effort's with the license prove fruitful? I think It can.....'to a certain extent', but as for 'Sticking to the book', It will turn out to be a hard task and will take a godly effort. Why?
In the Lord of the Ring's, there are a multitude of diverse and interesting characters. That's where the complexity lies for this game series.
From Frodo's hobbit friends Merry and Pippin, to the kind yet dangerous ent Treebeard. Some other great characters are Aragorn, the rogue Ranger, the Wizard Gandalf the Grey and the kindly but villainous Golem to the scores of villains and countless locales. That's the problem. And other problem's for a game transition remain.
The lead role's for instance, the standouts are, of course, Frodo and Sam.
These two hobbits go through so much change as the novels progress making a transition to a game a daunting and near impossible task.
The Lord of the Rings reinvents the word "epic" too, so It's no good trying to be on the same term's with the book at full throttle, or put it this way- being 100% right.
But as for keeping faithful and carrying the story to other things like gaming, consider this.
Peter Jackson's film version of the book's due out soon, had to make a lot of sacrifices, A LOT has been excluded from the three film's that was central to the book. Reason's being was that the book was too much of an epic and transitioning to a film needed to have cut's and alteration's. In that way, the same would happen to the Game, Time and effort is vital.
Making The Lord of the Rings into a game series will prove to be a very daunting task and that there is no doubt.
And really, It will be a hard job for the guy's at Nvidia for these XBOX title's.
More than likely though It will probably be worth the wait, my same feeling goes for the film's due soon, which I am steadily gaining excitement over. But In the long run, time will tell.
It surely will have me buying an X-BOX, so there is an excuse anyway.

Thats the first part, that hardly anyone remembers. Then you stick in the oh-so-famous one ring stuff. I'm so sad for remembering that.

I doubt you'll ever manage to understand it. No offense, but you need to read it at least three times to get the depth involved in LotR. Scum that go to the cinema because 'oooh, pretty elves' deserve to be shot. This is not my usual FFF hating, just plain fact about gamers.

I doubt you'll ever manage to understand it. No offense, but you need to read it at least three times to get the depth involved in LotR. Scum that go to the cinema because 'oooh, pretty elves' deserve to be shot. This is not my usual FFF hating, just plain fact about gamers.
