Bionic commando may be the one I'm thinking of actually, I don't think the turrican disk worked

Turrican was merely 'good', from memory. There were many better games around at the time, such as Bionic Commando or Probotector. Either of those revisited = hot sticky sex.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, I remember swinging around grapple-beam style on the old Amiga...

I can't even remember what turrican was like. I though it played like shinobi on the Megadrive ie 2d

Maybe the best game ever.

It borrowed elements from Mario, Metroid and was the first 8movement arcade game. Infact, it is a game responsible for nearly every other games in one way.
