I use to use 1024x768 but got really annoyed while programming when I couldn't see all the code I wanted to see. So I whacked up the screen rez to the highest it could go. 1280x1024! It's so much better at this rez! You can see so much more at once.

I use 1024 x 768.

How can you tell what your visitors use?

That was the maximum I could get my monitor to at the time!

I use 1024x768 but out of the visitors that I have got from my site from last week I can show you the stats:

640x480 - - - - 3 - - - - %1.01
800x600 - - - - 137 - - - - %45.97
1024x768 - - - - 132 - - - - %44.30
1280x1024 - - - - 11 - - - - %3.69
1152x864 - - - - 7 - - - - %2.35
1600x1280 - - - - 2 - - - - %0.67

Other Resolution - - - - 6 - - - - %2.01

It's getting VERY close now between 1024x768 and as all new computers have that as the default resolution now (Every PC in my school has that now) I'd saw to go for the 1024x768 for you site...

Dammit.

Not been keeping a close eye on the out of my price range hardware.
Used to do gifs 1200 wide for background images to put left-hand different colour/pattern margins on my web pages.
The idea was that given that nobody had over 1024 res, the image would tile from the top left corner, and it wouldn't repeat horizontally on the user's monitor because it was too big One would cover the whole width and there would only be the one bar of colour visible going down the left side of the page.

How big do i have to go these days? What's the new biggest res you can get?

And 800 x 600 is still most common, right?
