[Captain's Log: 10/03/04 - Day of the Edit Post Feature]
[Diary Entry: 7/7/05 - "We shall never forget"]
Playing pool, i beat the guy who plays for the county (and was asked to play for wales, but turned out ineligable, i think) - and just jarred my last yellow in the corner, which had it gone down, would have left me a 50-50 black to 7-ball him.
Don't get me wrong, he'd only have had one shot if i'd done it, so it was more a combination of me doing well and the table spreading nicely than beating him particularly, but it would have been great. I'll probably never come that close again against such a good player in my life.
Then i played him again, and should have won, but the old choke in the endgame kicked in. And i mean *really* should have won - had 2 chances with one colour and the black to clear, that i ought to have nailed easily.
Like i said, the choke again.
The thing is, i don't feel nervous by the time i shoot. (If i do feel nervous, i just wander round pretending to look at angles, chalk my cue and scratch my ash, until i calm down a bit, but even that doesn't happen much). I just choke the shot. So often.
Hopefully in time i'll start to master it.
Anyway, while my basketball looks in jeopardy of being too lame to have a proper team to play for after i leave uni, i think i'd have an outside shot at my county team right now, if i hit form at the trials.
In a few more years, and when i'm back in england (pool is one 'sport' where the welsh always seem to beat the english), i should be at county level by my mid 20s, with many years of.. choking the black.. ahead of me.
Here's hoping for virtual pool to be relaesed on the gamecube
: )

F-Zero X was the first game I bought when I went to uni. It was great! And the X mode was a fantastic option to the game. A random track generator. Every racing game should have one!
:)
Ah well, I bought lots of nice stuff for me to guzzle. Fun fun :0)
