I had two NES's though one wasn't strictly a NES...

One me parents got me when I was a wee lad as me and my brothers Xmas pressie. I think Mario 3 was the most played game, but there was this Ghouls and Ghosts one (re-released on GBA I believe...?) was incredibly tough... I never won it, but my brother managed to... then the endiong was the WORST EVER!!! It said... 'but that was just an illusion' and then you restart the game, but it's made harder! And there was no save function...
Also we had a cool Turtles game...

Anyhoo, the other NES was from when my Dad woked in Indonesia and we went out there. We got a NES that was called something different (I don't think it was even called the Famicom... can't remember the name...) and we got a (most likely illegal...) 300 in 1 cart. It had loadsa great games! I'm SURE it had the Ice climbers (or if not them a cheap rip off of them...) on it... it was a thing where you had to climb up and you could destroy blocks on the next level up to make enemies fall down and there were vultures flying at you and stuff...

There were also plenty of cool arcadey games and since we had two pads it was great fun playing them because they were all co-op games such as Contra 3, this funky space shooter that was really good as it had sidescrolling missions (where you can move forward/back and up down) and birds eye view missions (where you could move forward/back and left/right). It was a bit like R-type, but probably not as good :D
There was also an AMAZING game where you controlled a jeep (had 2 player co-op as well) and had a machine gun and upgradable other weapons (started as grenades, then missiles, then the missile explosions got bigger like in bomberman like the explosion going in multiple directions and getting longer) and you had to rescue prisoners from these huts all around the levels and get them to helipads for evacuation and then go on to fight a boss at the end of each level. I remember this one where you were chasing a train... it was cool... Me and my brother could never beat the final boss... it was a huge base with canons preactically all around you and nowhere to run (or should I say drive...)

And last but not least... there was a Mario Hammer game! Can't remember the name, but it was featured in that retro section of NGC mag (N64 then...) and you controlled Mario with a hammer and went through levels hitting these blocks in the background until they were destroyed before you could leave... there were enemies wandering around of course... but strangely in some levels there was another guy with a hammer (looked like an early version of *shock*horror* Wario) who would destroy the blocks too (meaning you couldn't get them for extra points) and then would chase you trying to kill you... hmmm... still it was a great arcadey game.

Oooh ooh! The cart even had not the original Mario Bros. but the Lost Levels sequel to it (only came out in Japan...) which was extremely tough! The levels seemed designed so that no one could win them!

Anyhoo, I'll shut up about the good ol NES days now :D
