Whay, technically (it being tuesday now) tomorrow i'm going back to uni (it's not starting yet, i've been there for the summer, back home for a couple of weeks).

I won a GAD on my first ever attempt :)
And it was the only attempt I've ever made...

A good effort, and certainly deserves to be a contender, but you have to realise that on most days there will be several other efforts which are likely to be of a similar standard.
So with any one effort, however good, a gad is probably unlikely - definitely less than 50:50 anyway. I've learned that the hard way.
Also, the day's competition, and tastes of the judge will always vary. I've learned that the hard way too, you'll (eventually ;^) ) win with a piece and know you've written better (in your opinion at least) that's gone unrewarded, as it were.
But keep trying, and i'm sure you'll get somewhere eventually :^)
