The forum has gone strangely quiet ñ why? This, right now, is the most exciting part of the next generation of consoles ñ before any games have been launched. Weíve been blessed with the powers of speech and the kind folks at Special Reserve are providing us with the medium to communicate those ideas with. However, we are blatantly ignoring the privilege bestowed on us, and insulting our beneficiaries. Posts for the last 24 hours are in danger of falling below the 1000 mark ñ disgrace! Hang your heads in shame forumites.
But maybe this isnít our fault! Maybe it is those in the higher echelons of the forum are in fault. We have no registration of member interests ñ nothing for us refer back to in deciding which comments were made out of blind loyalty or bitter hatred.
So, here to ensure your forums democracy and ensure disclosure is the intermediate-gen console questionnaire.

The Past
And here's mine...
1) First console owned (always going to influence things)
NES, got it for Xmas with Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. Had a soft spot for Nintendo ever since. Played on my brother's Spectrums and numerous other bits and bobs, but the Nes was the first that was mine, all mine.
2) 32/64 bit consoles owned, ranked in order of preference.
N64
PlayStation
Saturn
3) Reason for ranking in part 1)
Okay, the Saturn shouldn't have really ever existed, but I had one. And it diserved to die. So, it's only really between the N64 and the Playstation. Playstation was the one I got first and was imediately impressed. It had some amazing multiplayer games and at that time, for me and the way I was living, was important. Many's an evening was spent huddled around a TV with two or three friends. Worms was a favourite, just good, simple multiplayer fun. Anyway, sooner or later Mario 64 sweeped into my games playing world and all changed. PlayStation tried to rally with titles like Metal Gear Solid (too short) and Gran Turismo (not fun enough) - but the N64 always had something more. Could you have done without Goldeneye, Zelda or Mario Tennis? Didn't think so.
4) Favourite 32/64 bit game and why.
Mario 64 - it had it all. Came at a bad time though. I was supposed to be doing exams, but Mario was far more attractive than revising (still did amazingly well in the exams though). The first time Mario was switched on the jaw dropped. After maybe twelve years games playing this was the first thing I ever saw to really take my breath away. For the first few minutes I was happy enough just running in circles, climbing trees and running through water. It was like a real world. In 3D. It seemed solid and, well, real. I wasn't stuck on a track moving forward at a constant pace, with enemies advancing in the other direction in the same pattern as the last time I loaded the level.
More than anything - it was just good fun. The puzzles were clever, the levels were varied and, more importantly, the tasks were pretty varried. It a long game and I loved every single minute of it. Have to admit, I was rather sad to collect the 120th star.
5) Best invention of the 32/64 bit era.
Tough one - very tough one. I'd have to say the N64 and PlayStation controllers. Go back and take a look at the NES controller - a big block. The SNES one was a big improvement, but not quite there. Both the N64 and PSX contollers just melt into your hands. Pretty quickly, you don't notice them - and that's the sign of a good controller.
The Future
1) Please say one good and one bad thing about the PS2.
Good thing is that it is a jack-of-all trades. All the big players are still developing for Sony. They might be making Gamecube and X-Box games too, but Sony is in bed with more of them than either of the consoles. That means you can rely on the big names arriving on the PS2 sooner or later.
Bad thing is, you've got to say, it hasn't lived up to its hype. There are only one or two titles begining to trickle through now that are worth going out and buying a console for. Also, there have been almost no new franchises - you can only flog an old horse so many times.
2) Please say one good and one bad thing about the GameCube.
Its the only console you'll be able to play Nintendo's in house games on (obviously). How could you not want the console that Mario and Zelda call home? With Rare and Nintendo's game guaranteed to only appear in one place - you simply can't turn you're nose up at it.
Bad thing is, ermmm... lack of beat'em ups and spots titles. I was a fan of Smash Bros, so that doesn't count. Soul Calibre 2 will be welcomed and Capcom seem to be snuggling closer and closer to Nintendo, so maybe Street Fighter will make a bigger showing on the GameCube. I'm failing greatly at picking up on Nintendo's bad points. Oh yeah - sports titles. I'm only really interested in a football game really. None yet. By the time the UK/Europe launches come around there should be something ready (us being the biggest market for football games), I hope. 1080 2 being called off is a bit of a dissappointment too.
3) Please say one good and one bad thing about the X-Box.
Microsoft won't let this fail. They have the cash and the resources to make this one a hit. They've been in the industry for years, and more importantly they've been successful in the industry of years. Hopefully they can transport this amazing success over to the console world.
Bad thing - well all the above depends on them getting the 3rd party support. They simply can't buy all the IP they'll need. So the basic question is: do they have enough support outside their own four walls?
4) To include the Dreamcast: how do you feel about its downfall?
Not that bothered to be honest. I had a Dreamcast and enjoyed it no end. I think I got my monies worth out of the machine and can't really see what the fuss is about. Sega messed up - they couldn't market the thing. They downfall was their own fault, there is no point having the best games if no one knows about them.
So Sega don't make hardware any more - so what! They're still making games and that's the important thing.
5) If you could have one, and one only, of the above consoles, which one?
Gamecube - without hesitation. Give me it now. Please. I'm SO looking forward to this one. I've got mine ordered for the States and can't wait until getting my hands on it in just over two weeks. Simply, they make the games I want to play. I couldn't miss out on Mario Sunshie - not for anything any of the other consoles could ever offer. Add to that a launch line up that includeds Luigi's Mansion, Rogue Squadron and Super Monkey Ball and it'll keep me going until Mario arrives.
6) Which 3rd party developerís games are you most looking forward to?
SEGA! Capcom admitedly came close, with the Resident Evil titles, but no one has the breadth and quantity of titles Sega has to offer over all consoles. Super Monkey Ball is probably the Gamecube launch title I'm looking forward to most - however on the X-Box Sega pretty much make up for everything that's worth owning. I loved Jet Set Radio and can't wait to play the follow up. Shenmue was a dissappointment, but I'm looking forward to what they can do with the sequel and the X-Boxes power. Outside those two games all the X-Box has to interest me is Project Gotham.
7) Which nex-gen game are you looking forward to most?
Mario Sunshine. I know almost nothing about it - but knowing Shigsy is working on a Mario platformer is enough to have me dribbling.
8) Gameboy Advance, an good way of gaming on the move or home of tired re-hashes?
I've bought so many games in such a short time I guess I have to subscribe to the latter. However, Advance Wars and KuruKuru are the only ones to have really stood out. Outside those two there have been a whole world of dissappointment. I've got my hands on Doom two days ago and it's simply annoying - it's too dark to see what's happening FFS! Anyway, there's more good than bad, so GBA's been okay for me so far.
1) First console owned (always going to influence things)- Amiga 1200, but for consoles that are just consoles the Playstation
2) 32/64 bit consoles owned, ranked in order of preference.-Playstation then N64

The Future
1) Please say one good and one bad thing about the PS2.- Good- This console has the Final Fantasy series on it
Bad- How much do those extras cost?
2) Please say one good and one bad thing about the GameCube.

Bad- The Zelda graphics
3) Please say one good and one bad thing about the X-Box.
Good- Could be a great console, has the potential, and the size
Bad- Cost a bomb, and there launch titles are looking naff
4) To include the Dreamcast: how do you feel about its downfall?
Rather dissapointed, it had some good games, but some how, the console ended t***-up
5) If you could have one, and one only, of the above consoles, which one?
The PS2, purley because of the Final Fantasy games
6) Which 3rd party developerís games are you most looking forward to?

At the moment Final Fantasy 10
8) Gameboy Advance, an good way of gaming on the move or home of tired re-hashes?

3) Reason for ranking in part 1) - Only one I had.
4) Favourite 32/64 bit game and why. - Goldeneye. It was good.
5) Best invention of the 32/64 bit era. - The N64.

2) Please say one good and one bad thing about the GameCube. - Good thing, it can do 4 player 'round 1 machine. Bad thing, it looks poo.
3) Please say one good and one bad thing about the X-Box. - Good thing, the games look like they will be fantastic. Bad thing, it's too big.

7) Which nex-gen game are you looking forward to most? - XBox.
8) Gameboy Advance, an good way of gaming on the move or home of tired re-hashes? - Good way of gaming not on the move.
