When looking at my title you might think that I am saying that the PS2 is rubbish, or how much the xbox and gamecube are gonna wipe the floor with it, but this could not be further from the point. It is at this point I will warn you that this post is VERY long.

It is now almost a year since the Playstation 2 was released. I currently have 6 games for my Playstation 2. Although this might not seem many to some people, I am happy with the games I have got and there is not too many other games out that I really really want. Although more funding would have meant I would have had some of those good but not desperate to get games.

I am the type of person that if I get an idea into my head, i do it. Due to my tendency to do this I need certain games on release day. I even took in 2 of my games, as well as 4 of my sisters gameboy games (unkown to her, of course) so that I could get Time Crisis 2 as soon as it came out.

As I said previously, I am currently happy with my games collection. Then along comes November, and a flurry of games. I have been eagerly anticipating Pro Evolution, GTA3, Tony Hawks, Airblade, Burnout, Silent Hill 2 the list goes on, and on.... and on. With me living on canned food being a 'student dosser' in the words of my all knowing Uncle (Doc H if anyone ever peruses the nokia ringtone newsgroup) I have a severe lack of cash at the moment. It would be impossible for me to even buy one of these games in my situation. I do not like renting the games as they just increase my desire to buy the game.

I do not often post topics on the message boards, but have been a member for a while (as you can see by looking at my stats). I do not usually feel the need to post as other peoples discussions are very informative and show a lot of viewpoints similar to my own.

Today I read that Devil May Cry has been delayed until Mid December(ish). At first I was devastated, but once I have thought about it I would welcome this for a lot of games. Personally, I would prefer games to be delayed by even longer times so that releases were not too congested. This way my anticipation would grow, but I would not lose interest by renting the game out or playing it at a friends house. This way I would also possible buy more games as I would not waste my money through a lean patch of games. I know that my views would not be shared with everyone here, hopefully I am not alone with my thinking though, especially all of us skint 'student dossers'.

I warned you it would be very long.

I wouldn't be surprised, I've just got GTA3, luckily I won F1 2001 on SR (good game by the way) and I'm really looking forward to Pro Evo.

Three games in 2 months? That'll do me nicely, Xbox and Gamecube are going to have to produce something pretty special to compete in the new year....

Looking at it from a marketing point of view, what Sony are doing is very very clever. They have spent most of this year releasing the lesser titles and holding back the triple A titles (their Big Guns) until the run up to Christmas.

Xbox has been annouced for UK release in March and GameCube was the same until the latest delays pushed it back to June. However both are set for American release at the end of this month. The same times as all those great games hit the US and UK on PS2.

Sony dropped the price of the PS2 as a pre-emptive strike and now carpet bomb us with games before Christmas in the hope that everyone will buy a PS2 and blow thier money on games so they have no money for XBox. A very clever strategy! I bet it'll work too!

I agree Pro Evo. They waited for over 9 months to bring the first must-have title on the PS2(GT3) and then they start pouring out games all over the place. There are at least 7-8 games that many people would want to play and they all come out between November and Christmas.
I think that it is very hard for people to afford to buy all those games unless they get loads of presents. I am lucky that I won couple og GAD's because I would be buncrupt if it wouldnt be for them. Thanx SR :)

Well then start trading PS2 games, ones that will be useless when you have the sequels i.e. Fifa or Tekken...

Damn student dossers wishing away my prescious release dates!!!

I think they should bring all the AAA games out as soon as possible and if ew can't afford them, we'll have to be patient or mug old ladies!

Either way, I will not have release dates put back!

Does anyone else get that thing were until a game is released, you're sure there's no way you can afford it, but then come release day - you just find the money somehow (dipping into life savings, selling kidneys - that sort of thing?)

The end of this month is the last payday for most people to go out and buy xmas presents for a lot of people, so games are specifically released now.

It makes you wonder why the games are all of a sudden coming out now. I did a post about this a while ago.

One idea was that it has taken a year for the developers to get to a stage where they could use the developer kit to a standard that they could creat some very good games. And now that they have the skill to do so all the quality titles are starting to come out.

Every week a new title is being released and is classed as an AAA title which can only be good for us PS2 owners.

Another idea was that sony had this in mind all along, they told the developers to make there games great and release then at the back end of the year, this would then fall along the PS2 price drop and be close up to Christmas.

Either way you look at it, we are only going to get the best, and better games from now on!

You're right about the 'flurry of games' - November is show-time for the PS2 and right before christmas as well.... Nintendo and Microsoft have a lot to contend with in Europe!

I think games being release dtogether is a good thing because it means that people who only want one of the games can have that game at the same time everyone else gets theirs...

Someone might be waiting for Pro Evolution, but if the games were released one-a-week and Pro Evolution was last, they might not get it in time for christmas...!

Etc...

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Easy and free service!
I think it's fab that you provide an easy-to-follow service, and even better that it's free...!
