Ok, the irony of the situation:
Get GTA3 before you lot thanks to SR Chelmsford, played it once since and that's been it so far.
One question based on my 4hrs play in 5 days:
How do you cross to the other parts of the city?
The bridge is down and damned if I could get over to the other 2 sections.
I admit, I don't know what the heck I'm doing on this game because I haven't had ONE SINGLE CHANCE TO PLAY IN OVER 5 DAYS.
Nor can I tonight.

As the game progresses and the story unfolds, you'll eventually get double-crossed by a Mafia boss; the radio will inform you that the bridge/tunnel to Staunton Island is now open.
So, while it is fun to just do your own thing and ignore the missions, you have to do them eventually to get to the new areas.
When you do get there, there are different vehicles also. If you go to the Import/Export warehouse at Portland Docks, there's a list of vehicles on the wall. Deliver all vehicles (16, I think) and you'll get a bonus... but some vehicles are only available in the 2nd and third areas - so it's a nice ongoing sub-mission.

It said in the reviews that the radio lets you know when the bridge is repaired...

I've only played it for a couple of hours as well, but you need to do some missions first.
This is like the first level, then when you prgoress to the second level you move onto the second part of the city, the third level is the last part of the city and the final level is all three.

You have to complete the missions your given to unlock the other parts of the city, that's just a guess though cause i've played the game for about 10 minutes.
