We can speculate over the development of the rumoured PlayStation 3, we can laugh over the idea of a GameSphere and we can giggle insanely over the thought of a Ybox. Whatever, none of us actually knows whatís coming next.
So, letís use our imaginations.

To be honest, anything could happen next. We donít know what kind of technical developments the people at Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony are up to. But, in a perfect world, here is what Iíd like to happen...
~~~~~~~
Developers canít create any new technology, which rules out the prospect of more consoles. Theyíd be no different from the last ones. So, game creators start using Reality Gaming. The landscapes are crafted, or they could play in a real environment. The player is put in outfit and goes around accomplishing tasks. The enemies and other people in the game could be played by other humans. This, obviously, is an adventure game. But itís the best example.
First Person Shooters would be fantastic. You could be a commander of a SWAT team, or you could be a lowly Private, being bossed around by other people. Paintball guns and objectives would be introduced and away you go! You could even use real landscapes, it would all add to the atmosphere. Decent War-games could be introduced and new genres could be thought up. Obviously racers would be a bit hard to do, but they werenít that popular anyway :-D.
Puzzlers would be great this way round. Of course, blocks couldnít drop from the sky because of health issues, but hard logic tests could be introduced, as could other kinds of puzzles. Even the classic Lara Croft "Push some stones around to open up doorways" puzzles could be used.
Unfortunately, all this could be quite expensive, and, in all honesty, itís not going to happen. So, what else is there?
One idea Iíve always enjoyed entertaining is that of "Dream Gaming".
No, not a PickíníMix kind of thing, but games being played in your dreams. Let me explain:
When you sleep, you get hooked up to a machine, this machine taps the sub-conscious nerves that fire impulses to and from the brain which makes you dream, and manipulates them so you get put into a certain environment. This could be anything... A racetrack for racing games, A strange landscape for adventure games, a footy pitch for football games, anywhere really for FPSí...
The possibilities are endless.
Anyway, before you go to sleep you choose the game. Then, when you fall asleep the machine makes you dream you are in that certain landscape. Then, you just play!
The nerve impulses detect what you want to do in the dream and so you make that movement. Be it to combat roll, fire, run or just to simply walk forward. Whatever your sub-conscious mind thinks, thatís what happens.
Then, when you finish dreaming, the machine scans your brain and instantly saves the point that you got to.
How cool would this be?! Dream Gaming, not only would you have fun playing games, you wouldnít stay up all night playing them! And do you know how much play youíd get out of it? Well that all depends on how long you sleep and how many R.E.M cycles you go through in one night. But in theory, the more you sleep, the more you dream, the more you play!
I really love the thought of playing games in your sleep; itíd give me a reason to go to bed at night anyway!
Well, thatís it from me. Iím off to go and try and invent a Dream Console and to see if I can buy some land to play a few Reality Games on :-D
Umm, I would also like to play games when I go to sleep, but,
Nah, I'm sure it would work, RBS. And when it
> comes out - I'll get one, too!
(Erm, Shocky, it's not for real)
I
> see...
Lol.
I hadn't thought of that part
[Liar, yes you had, but you couldn't think of a way round it so you ignored it]
Excuse me, I think I left the err... rabbit on the stove... *Runs off*
:-D
I see...
SHOCKY
> we can laugh over the idea of a GameSphere
I wouldn't laugh. Apart from the fact that it'd keep rolling around and jogging the disc, it'd be a well-rounded product.
Fair enough in itself, but guess what game would be the most popular. Rebuild the Human Race with Sarah Michelle Gellar, no doubt. :0)
I'll buy that for a dollar.
