Nintendo is a household name everyone knows and trusts. Releasing games over the years that would probably be considered the best ever! Back in the days of the SNES, Nintendo fought its way to the top, seeing the demise of other consoles in its path.
They were unstoppable.
The games were highly original, "fresh" and fun. Franchises like Mario and Zelda were Nintendos strongest point. Over the years they built themselves a loyal fanbase, Who praised Nintendo for their efforts and stood by the company no matter what.
Now before this post turns into some secondary school history lesson i'll move onto the point.
Does Nintendo deserve to be in this market today?
Well your probably all thinking "Whats he been smoking? Of course Nintendo do, they rule!"
Maybe in their production of high quality titles, Yes.
Nintendo, in my opinon suck at marketing. They seriously have'nt done duck all for Europe. Now I know that sounds harsh, but you have to admit its true. The gamecube is currently lagging behind in 3rd place, and Nintendos advertising scheme is abysmal.
It looks like Nintendo are just sitting back and letting this happen, Not releasing games like Animal Crossing in Europe, Not dropping the price of the console to compete in the market.
They just seem so lazy and don't care.
I think everyone can admit, this years E3 was pretty poor for all formats. Nintendo had the worse mind....
WE DON'T GIVE A F*F**K ABOUT THIS GC/GBA CONNECTING SH*T!
Sigh..
I think Nintendo needs to look forward next time. Get their rear ends in to gear.
Push Nintendo to number one!
Still, this topic poses the question: -
Would Nintendo be better off if they run just as a software-only company?
I haven't seen an Xbox advert on TV for months!
> What?
>
> Bullcrap
..*sigh* must you always have to retaliate like that? Is it an instinctual thing or did you have to work at it? Perhaps you see lots of GC adds, but i dont, the only GC add i ever see is the Zelda one, and thats VERY rarely. Admitedly there havent been many game adds around (except those Primal adds) because of the lack of big games (from PS2 and X-Box). But im talking about everything from sponcership to mag adds, Tv to posters. My opinion is my opinion WS and to be honest your constant single mindedness is getting tiresome...
And i also dont beleive that this is the solution, i dont know what the solution is, if i did know then i would probably be working for Nintendo. In my mind there isnt one single solution, but lots of small factors that must be considered, advertising is one off them. This is also why it will be hard to win back there place, because there is alot to be done.
I thought that Japanese Sp advert was swish,
The only problem being that most people wouldn't understand that it used lithium ion rechargable batteries and stuff.
That doesn't make me suddenly think that they don't deserve to be around any more.
After all, they're SUCCESSFULLY selling consoles (despite reuters downputting) and are making huge profits. If they can do this with little marketing, then Ithink they clearly deserve to stay around.
Zelda advert was rubbish though.
They're just crap.
Mario, Metroid and Zelda were great games with crap adverts.
And I seen a GBASP advert at the cinema, it was in JAPANESE!
WTF!?
I always see Sony, but rarely Microsoft.
I don't think advertising is the answer to all their problems, the certainly need to pull their fingers out when it comes to that. But to be honest I can't actually think of a solution, people see Nintendo as a childish company, they consider Sony cool and Microsoft....not cool but more mature. It's gonna take the a hell of a lot of convincing to convince the public otherwise.
The public are narrowminded it's simple as that. Nintendo have produced a great console with the Cube, it's got a really, really solid line-up this year. If Final Fantasy, Metal gear Solid and Resident Evil games don't sell the console then I really don't know what will.
Maybe getting the GTA series exclusive or something, but that's not gonna happen.
Anyway, I'm fed up with all the negativity about Nintendo that's all over the forums. I'm loving my Gamecube, even if the ignorant masses think it's babyish.
Bullcrap, I have seen far more adverts for Gamecube and Gamecube games than Xbox.
In fact, I can't even remember the last time I saw an Xbox advert, and at launch I saw no publicity for Halo at all.
But while Nintendo are brilliant developers that only the true fans can trust, they really do have to start reaching out to all the millions of gamers that doubt them due to their kiddy image. There's no denying it; Nintendo's games are colourful and child-like, and this just doesn't appeal to the masses, no matter how good the games actually are.
And I agree about the GC/GBA connectivity partially, but Nintendo have a good reason for surrounding it with some much publicity, as it's something Nintendo should try and put to good use, and quickly, as in around two years, Sony will be doing exactly the same thing. But, although it has its advantages, no-one really buys a GBA SP or GBA to link up to their GC. No-one.
I love Nintendo and my Gamecube, but they need to get with the times; ADVERTISE!
