For the past year I've been watching as myself and others suddenly decline in posting, having no real emotion to do so anymore... and now, it seems so clear. There is a reason to this.

WE ARE TAKING OURSELVES TOO SERIOUSLY.

For Gods sake. Who cares that the PS2 sucks, there are no decent games for it, or the Gamecube is for kids and the X-Box will fail? What the hell happened to a bunch of guys in a room laughing and poking fun at eachother?

We've got our heads so far up our own beliefs that we can't see that we're driving ourselves insane by not having any fun! We complain about the decline of the forums, and it's because of us, not anyone else!

If you come to these forums, then it's to have fun, and cheer yourself up. We make more effort to write about why the next generation of games will affect ourselves in the future than we would trying to entertain eachother. Topics are not sodding documentarys, they're entertainment, and it's so bloody obvious that this isn't happening it's driving me around the bend.

Hasn't it ever occured to you that the topics that get the most replies are simple topics all in good fun? Meka's longest topic in a while was one that was him laughing at a man who locked himself in a shed late at night while he was "browsing the web", while other excellent topics about his views on gaming and prices at the moment are ignored. No offense Meka, I'm just trying to prove a point.

We need to spend more effort on having fun, and less on writing "our point of view on today's society of gaming". What crap.

And before you all say "FUTURE OF GAMING", go back to last year here on the forums. The only topics that were about the future of gaming were mostly by newbies trying to win games, or the regulars in an offish mood. The rest of the topics was wondering where everyone is, and orginising game tournaments. Never took off, but were fun to do.

So why can't we do stuff like this any more? Why hasn't someone just come onto the forums, and asked if someone wants to play Unreal Tournament or something, like they used to?

Because we're so hooked onto making topics "epic", we've forgot what the fun of it is all about. I say we stop writing so much uninspiring tosh, and go back to basics.

This is why I demanded a caption contest, and I know why now. I still demand one.

I demand that we buy a multiplayer game and go play it together. Organise a day for us all to play. Once a month will do. Once every two months is fine... we just need to do it.

I demand that we spend more time doing fun things, discussing fun topics... sod what you think Sony will be doing in two years time, what did you do today? What game are you thinking of buying next? Tell us about a game we haven't heard of. Who remembers Road Rash? What would have happened if Nintendo made the first ever FPS?

I demand we at least do something. This isn't something you can just say: "Yeah, that's a good idea, let's ask Tony..." This is something we can do ourselves. Boring boring topics about the future... we should be looking to the now, and what the hell we can do in the meantime.

This is why I love the stories. It's just a bunch of us all doing something together, none of it is that serious... even though I do get carried away every now and again... :0)

So I ask you. Suggest stuff that will make the forums a more fun place to be! Polls, we could have polls.

More varied competitions, we don't need GADS to be award to them, we could just mess around. A competition for the best drawing of Mr Snuggly.

Quizes. I'm not saying stop writing that gaming topic and go make a quiz, I just think that people should try and make an effort to do something like this.

Come on! Ideas!

Agreed. I do read non gaming topics but only when they're by personal notables. Come to think of it, I only read topic in general if they're by my personal notables. Hmm, sign of the times, I think.

Yeah, I did the think there were I started to write about one thing, changed what i was on about without editing the post, and hoped it would make perfect sense.

Yeah, the news topics aren't quite as exciting as they used to be... once again though, we're taking it all too seriously and not allowing to let ourselves be wrapped up in stupidity and petty bickering at eachother.

So kinda agree, I think.

I'm not sure I agree with everything you say Mr Thraves (but it would be boring if I did!).

I find the problem to be that there are too many people here asking where others are, and writing about things that don't matter.

But yes, I think it's not just that we take ourselves too seriously, but we appear to be afraid to offend people. It seems like we don't want to say how we feel anymore, because a bunch of people we don't know will read it!

When was the last time someone just posted an important piece of gaming news, and we all went off our heads about it?

I mean, if the Resident Evil thing had happened last year it would have gone full scale Nintendo vs Sony, but in a jovial way, as we all knew each other, and knew when someone was screwing around, and when someone was really going into one about something.

Today there are so many people here, that it's not quite so 'clicky' - the 'in-jokes' go over peoples heads, and things like that.

But het, I'll keep doing what i did, and hope people like it!
