I am of course talking about which console to buy. Now this is not another console wars topic. It's just that I can't decide whether to get a GameCube or a PS2. Up until a few days ago I had my mind firmly set on the GC. Now however, I'm not so sure. There was a time just before the PS2's release when I was planning on getting one (it was the MGS2 video that really persuaded me) but my brother talked me into to getting a Dreamcast instead. "It's half the price" he'd say "with 6 games!!!" In the end, I crumbled and split him on the DC and I have truly regretted it.
So, I really don't want to make the same mistake again. Now after looking at a few more videos and games being released for the PS2, I'm back to deciding what to get again. Yes, it's another MGS2 video that really got me thinkng. But then there's GT3 and GTA3, both PS2 exclusives. However, on the other side, I have Rogue Leader, Mario, Perfect Dark, and basically Nintendo and Rare games on the whole. AARRGGHH this is so difficult.
I suppose what I could do is get a PS2 at Christmas and then wait until my Birthday (end of June) to get a GC or even wait till Christmas. And I suppose then, I may even decide that I don't want a GC because I've fallen in love with my PS2.
I don't even know why I'm asking because I'm sure I'll get a lot of "Sony Rules" and "Nintendo reign supreme" (in fact that's a good one, I'll have to remeber that :-D). The fact is though, I want you to help me to decide just by writing ideas or by telling me what console you think I should get. In fact, what would be even better is if someone who was a Ninty and bought a PS2 could tell me what they think of their PS2.
You know this probably isn't going to affect me at all but I must try. What make's it harder though, is that my brother is going off to University next year so I can't split the console with him.
You know, I may just have to go round my 'friends' house (who I actually hate) and play GTA3 and GT3. Goddamm this is so difficult.
The new Zelda probably has a big part in this as well subconsciencly.

Then you're sorted. My thinking, in your situation, would be:
I have the money for a PS2, memory card and one game now. I can get a PS2 now. The 'cube isn't around for at least another 5 months, and it may be cheaper than PS2; so in that time (5 months) I can save again for a 'cube and get that.
And if the worst happens and I don't like the PS2, at least it'll tide me over, and I can trade it in against a 'cube when it finally does get released.
Problem solved.
Thinking about it again, I am back to wanting a PS2. I have payed off all my debts and I now have 280 quid.
I am hoping to get 130 quid put towards a PS2 at Christmas since I didn't get a lot for my birthday. My mum says fine but no doubt my dad will push it a bit lower.
That leaves me with 70 quid to pay myself, and then a further 70 quid for MGS2 and GTA3 (which are the two games I would PROBABLY get with it).
That's 140 quid spent which leaves me with 140 pounds in the bank. Not bad.
Then I could get a GameCube for my Birthday in June although I'd most likely wait until Christmas. Hopefully by then there might be a price drop and the console will definitely have picked up with pleny of quality games to choose from.
That's my plan today. I expect I'll be back to GC tonight though. :-D
You should have seen me choosing which console to get 4 years ago. Saturn. No, Playstation. Wait Saturn. Yes definitely Saturn. In fact, Playstation. No wait, Saturn again. At last, I saw Mario playing in Dixons and that was it. Bought an N64 there and then and never looked back....until I got my DC that is.
Woo!
Nintendo 1 - 0 Sony
:D:D
I seriously don't want to get rid of GC though. I think it actually might be MGS2 that is THE game that is causing the most thought. Most probably, if Konami announced it for GC (which is more than unlikely) then it would all go away. My final thought for tonight. GameCube.
MGS2
GTA3
GT3
Twisted Metal Black (on PSX it was great)
Tekken 4 (although I suppose I'd be happy with Soul Calibur 2)
Shadowman 2
And that's just saying a few off the top of my head.
Of course with GC:
Rogue Leader
Luigi's Mansion
Wave Race
Mario
Perfect Dark
Kameo
Zelda
Mario Kart
Metroid
Star Fox
And it's not even out...
Mind you, I've looked further into GC than PS2. Goddamm it. Why am I justifying why I can name more quality GC titles than PS2. AARRGGHH!!
Don't think about the PS2 too much... don'tlets those blue and green lights attract you!
The thing your on about is games...
GT£ and MGS2... your friend, unless his a twirp, will buy or has bought BOTH of these games!!!1
You can play them! You can borrow his PS2! You don't need a PS2, you only need a friend who has one...
My problem is that all my friends don't have consoles... (poor buggers.. :D) so they rely on me... when I said I wasn't getting a PS2 they went to Comet every friday and left me to my WWF and Beer on my own! So I'm getting a PS2 for about 5 reasons...
Just two games won't hold you...
Seriously... you can play your mates PS2... get a Gamecube...
Liking the PS2 isn't a good thing :D it's just a hormonal thing...
I think the PS2 is a waste of time, but hey... it's not me that counts... to quite my brother.. :D
Game: Thinks you should get Gamecube...

Before the thought of buying a PS2 came into my head I did, like you say, block out the good PS2 games and I was incredibly biased. Now however, as I look further into PS2 games on release schedules realise that there are some quality titles.
I know deep down, I probably do want a GC but I just know I can't wait (and MGS2 looks soooo good). I'd say I'm going to get both and there is a chance I could, but I also know deep down I almost certainly won't.
I'm gonna talk to my brother and see whether I can succer him into wanting a PS2 like he did with me and the damn dirty DC.
I'd stick with the console you REALLY want, go with your first instincts... like I said... you're not exactly going to miss out... you can go round to yer mates house and play on the games for free!
Game
both
But here it is......
I am Nintendo through and through... I love their games... the pro's of the Gamecube are many...
4 controller ports...
Mario
Rareware
Zelda
Shigeru Miyamoto
PIKMIN
Lots of 'Cool' games as well as Vintage Nintendo titles...
Loads of new franchises and themes: Kameo - DKR
If your a Ninty, and you have limited cash i'd wait for the Gamecube... purely because you're guaranteed titles YOU like....
Of course, although i'm bias as hell, there are some great games coming out on PS2, and even if you're not into the whole MGS/GTA/GT idea, there are some great platformers coming out in Jak and Daxter and Maximo. The problem with being Bias, not that you are, is that you tend to shrug of the oppositions games in self defence if you will...
I know this is big coming from me, and I don't mean to sound all self gratifying when i say that, but to be honest the PS2 isn't that bad a console... God knows it can shift a shÌt load of polygons and the game models are amazing...
Either way you go, you can't do to badly... one one hand you're mad at Nintendo because you THINK they'll screw you, and on the other hand you like Nintendo and despite not being as successful as Sony, they have delievered in Goldeneye, PD, Mario Kart and many other titles...
I'll be honest as say that Nintendo is the best idea... just hang on for a bit longer... they're the same price, but you know in your heart you want Gamecube!
