I know someone who has. Not exactly broadband, but a lot quicker than a modem! BT's cheapest service is 500Mbps (that's mega bits per second) but IIRC it does not work at that speed in both directions.

The BT box is a self-contained router and DHCP server - your PC just needs an ethernet card. If you have serveral machines you can simply uplink a hub or switch to the box then all machines will have Internet access.
However, I would also recommend anyone getting on this service to get themselves a firewall - either in hardware or software. I heard recently of some poor chap whose entire HD contents got downloaded, including all his bank details.
