BT's Broadband service. Has anyone got this?

Also a dumb question...What hardware do you need with your pc to compliment the line?

I know someone who has. Not exactly broadband, but a lot quicker than a modem! BT's cheapest service is 500Mbps (that's mega bits per second) but IIRC it does not work at that speed in both directions.

The BT box is a self-contained router and DHCP server - your PC just needs an ethernet card. If you have serveral machines you can simply uplink a hub or switch to the box then all machines will have Internet access.

However, I would also recommend anyone getting on this service to get themselves a firewall - either in hardware or software. I heard recently of some poor chap whose entire HD contents got downloaded, including all his bank details.

Cable is cheaper per month, but may be a bit more to install. Check out www.blueyonder.co.uk

hmmm won't it be expensive with a cable line/company?

It seemed the best choice to go with bt with their cheap line and the fact that the line in question is already a bt line but maybe not then...DOH!

I have BT anytime, BT have served me well for the past 2 years and I have had no problems with them. I have heard that the broadband service is cheap, but I have never heard any good comments about it. I suggest you go for a service that will serve you well.

BT install the line up to your machine, and then you connect to it with a USB modem they give you. Go with cable though, its a shorter wait and better service.
