As the Gamecube follows the N64 down the route of a small money making machine it looks like, at last, someone at Nintendo HQ bothers to research the game forums.

We're unhappy, and at last, Iwati, our new friend at the head of Nintendo HQ, plans to change their image. DAMN!

Creating ties with third parties, beginning new franchises and selling new Nintendo ideals. That is the job of the Gamecube, because it is the next Gamecube and the $6 billion investment that will rise Nintendo back to the top.

The new franchises begins with N-trance's geist, going on the back of the new Pikmin game... we'll probably never play a new Nintendo game that features cutsey characters (erm Giftipia?).

It is a damnable shame to see Nintendo desire to push themselves to the top via catching the imagination of the market. Expect a GBASP looking games machine and brand new violent games developed by Nintendo and third parties alike. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mario and a game from Retro Studio's being the main launch titles.

Why do we get Metal Gear Solid and The Sims? These aren't sodding Nintendo games. Nintendo are finally selling out to gain success in the market, and despite being glad their doing it, I'm also dissapointed. Nintendo are not a mass market company, they're alternative. My favourite company is selling out... and whose fault is it? Ours because we told them too.

What Nintendo need to do is a launch a marketing campaign selling the idea of Nintendo. In todays day and age a lot of people strive to be different "alternative" as it were. A campaign that shows Nintendo are different to Sony is an excellent idea. Some guy telling the screen how his friends buy realistic games, and then saying "where's the fun?", I'd much rather jump ten times my body height... etc... with clips of the games he's describing.

Be Different...

Nintendo.

That is what it's all about... don't sell out Nintendo, I still love you.

Dringo.

Surely if Ninty seek out an 'alternative' image they'll always, by definition, be in second place?

On the issue of Ninty's image problem generally, they really only need to win people over once. Get them into nintendo, seriously, and they tend to stay that way for the long term.
Building on the 'poaching' of resi, adding MGS and Final Fantasy should win a lot of people over - even if they don't buy a cube, they'll only really be able to justify siding with sony over Ninty on grounds of GTA and Pro Evo. With so little extra going for the ps2, it'd be hard to criticise Nintendo. Ninty's image should catch up fast.

Then maybe more people will be happy to buy the Cube 2.

I disagree, personally I believe we're going to have a much larger western strive for success. We're going to get a lot of sequels, a lot of new shoot 'em ups with twists etc...

Yes the ghost idea of geist (although not an original concept but probably originally implemented) and Metroid Prime, are original, they're Nintendo, but not... if you see my point.

Lets put it this way, Nintendo are Mario, Zelda and Metroid, Sony are GTA, GT and Metal Gear Solid... PC is Sims, Half Life... etc... etc...

Nintendo aquires some new games that were previously Sony exclusive. We got the Resident Evil franchise, which is great. We get our Exclusive Metal GEar Solid game, which is great. We get our special edition Sims game, which is also great. But they are also not Nintendo, they are sub standard games based on realism, pure throw away unrealistic joyous romps are what Nintendo are famed for. Resident Evil series WASN'T the best announcement Capcom made, the 4 original games are, because they seem very Nintendoish.

To be honest realistic games that aren't based on fun are not Nintendo. Look at Resident Evil, its job is to scare you, it is why we have an ancient control system to initiate panic and crappy camera to make things difficult to see. Metal Gear Solid is essentially an interactive movie, all the storyline builds and the realistic motions and concepts, it is trying to be a film. The Sims is a simulation game in which you can alter ideas, it isn't based on fun, it is based on creation.

These are not Nintendo ideals, but they sell better than Nintendo's games. And so to make money Nintendo do deals with EA, do deals with Konami and do deals with Capcom to get the exclusive games. Why are Silicon Knights not making a brand new Eternal Darkness, a brilliantly original and fun concept that is done perfectly... and making the sony-esq Metal Gear Solid?

Because Nintendo need to sell out some of the way to get the money. Yes we'll still get the Nintendo games that are based purly on fun but we'll also get the "sell out" games, the games Nintendo create to make money. Be it Geist or some spin-off. For example this is the first time ever that a Zelda "spin-off" game has been created by Nintendo. Money is the most important thing to Nintendo, that is why Pokemon memory magic was created, it can be easily implemented as an extra in the colleseium game, but that way Nintendo don't get double the revenue.

It's the big sell out. But Viewtiful Joe, Billy hatcher and the Giant egg and Giftipia all indicate it isn't happening just yet... but Iwati insists it will. I was glad to see Nintendo are keeping with Cel-shaded graphics for the next Zelda, because going to system-selling realistic graphics is a further indication of "selling out".

Lets just see.

Lol, the way i see it is that its still going to be Nintendo making the games, so the games will still be of the same quality, plus i doubt they will drop Mario, Zeldo or Metriod (Metriod being 'non'kiddy' means i SEVERELY doubt it will get dropped).

Nooo, what we mean is, people should look past the kiddy image and enjoy the games they make. THey're changing their image (and games by doing so), which means less of the games we always loved. I think. I didn't really understand the topic's first post.

No you see as far as the majority of us are concerned, Nintendo's image is fine. It's just in the long run, it doesn't appeal to the mass market so a change image is what Nintendo needs if it wants to stay in the buisness, which is all good for everyone.

Nintendo try to go alternative with the 'different' shape and colour of the Gamecube, if I remember correctly they were going for the niche market like VW Beetles and stuff

Nintendo need GTA.

Imagine if the GameCube got GTA exclusively.
