However, one thing i don't understand is the need for it to be a big symbolic thing revolving around the fact that it's a game between sports teams from new york and washington.

Don't get me wrong, i mean no disrespect to the memories of those who died, or to their families, and i'm not saying we shouldn't remember/comemorate the events of sept. 11, but what relevence does it have to the basketball game? And why will the programme feature those affected?
Surely those looking to remember the events have no interest in seeing a basketball match, and those looking to see Mike come back don't also desperately want to be reminded of the terrorist attacks.

Sure, nice coincidence, new york and washington on the first day of the season, what's more, Jordan will be there. But how does it really relate to saying
"The idea is to represent a big healing moment - two teams, two cities affected by 11 September,"

Sounds to me like a cross between a bit of a coincidence and an opportunity for money to be made.

Still, i know where i'll be 30th oct, 11pm.

Wasn't the best game i've ever seen, suppose that's to be expected, 2 dodgy teams (NY been steadily declining with the loss of Ewing, LJ and in the short term, Camby, with no real replacements), first game of the season, new defence allowed this year (zone). Still, love the close finishes.

How about the commentary though? That stank! Aside from the tecnical issues (remember hearing 'no, does anyone have a handkerchief, i need a handkerchief), the downright stupidity of most of the commentators, and probable drunkenness of the guyin washington. And when the guy courtside didn't know who the celebrity was that the woman pointed out, asked her to 'introduce him'. Then there were the swearing interviewees who had absolutely no opinion on anything... hen the woman thought they were doing the jumpball before the start of the game - classic!

If you didn't see it, the bbc's incompetence was commic. But then, they don't have a good track record, cancelling half a cup final to show wimbledon highlights, and they always seem intent on having at least one commentator who doesn't have a clue what's going on, trying to get by like it's a football match.

Sadly, i doubt we'll be seeing much more of the game on the good old beeb!
