Linux PS2 Scores Global Release - October 24, 2001

Sony will release a worldwide Linux version of PlayStation 2 following a Japanese launch next summer. SCEI's Chief Technical Officer, Shin'ichi Okamoto, said the company was planning to make an announcement about a worldwide version of the kit "soon".
Sony launched Linux for PS2 in Japan in June in response to customer demand.

It's looking about £200 at the mo, but you get the linux disc, a mouse, keyboard and hdd.

Seeing as the hdd alone looks like £100, it's a bargain.

if you had the hard drive pack for the PS2 then once you have linux on it then you should be able to use a wide veriety of linux based programes of which there are getting more and more
all the way from games to word procesors

hey mabee some people would just end up using their PS2 as a pc instead of shelling heaps more for a proper one

i'm not saying it would be able to do everything a pc could but it is a thought to consider

mabee this is part of sony's idea of a all-in-one machine finally becoming a reality

and just to start a nasty rumor maybee the windows CE (console edition) would work on the PS2

yea right!! LOL

I'll be getting the PS2 Linux kit. I'm doing a Computer Games Technology degree, and this thing would be excellent for my studies.
