But every artist/band become a sellout as soon as they sign to a record label or release any material. It's the nature of the business. Anyone who insists that the bands/artists which they like haven't sold out, is fooling themselves.

I think 'selling out' is over-used. I don't think most artists/bands 'sell out' nowadays, because so many people start out in a band looking to get signed and make a career out of it. I see 'selling out' as compromising your music/values/etc. to make more money. If the music was always just a means to an end, ie. it was always just a career move, then surely you can't actually sell out?
