I ordered an item from an online store early on Wednesday of this week, which was in stock at the time I ordered.

No news of dispatch on Wednesday.

No news of dispatch on Thursday.

Late Friday (7:49pm), I get an e-mail - "Blah blah blah... your item has been dispatched... blah blah blah... Parcel Force... blah blah blah... 1-2 business days..."

In other words, I won't get it until Monday or, probably, Tuesday.

Now why the hell can't they deliver tomorrow? Oh, they can, but only at extra cost.

If I go into town tomorrow, every store will be open, doing business.

Surely, then, Saturday is a business day?

Royal Mail deliver on Saturdays at no extra cost. Why can't courier services?

And these days, you could probably say the same about Sunday too.

The way people shop is changing rapidly, and with websites being available 24/7, I think it's about time the various postal services caught up. We need services that deliver 7 days a week.

You'd have thought someone would have caught on to the fact that there's a hole in the courier market just begging to be filled.

This is true.

I also wonder why cheques take 5 "business" days to clear. Fair enough most branches are only open during restricted hours on sundays, if they are open at all, but they should be taking the time and effort to be processing my cheque on a saturday.

Saturday and Sunday are not business days in the UK, and we wonder why our economy is so screwed....

Everyday is a business day, I've ordered online from America, Japan, Hong Kong, and they don't mess around. In most cases, you order Saturday, they ship same day or next day.

One brilliant example right now.

Ordered a DVD player from Amazon.co.uk on Wednesday, around 1PM, that was on 24 availability, paying %.50 for first class postage. Later in the day I go to Nemesis Records website (they're in America), and buy a CD, paying $4 for postage. This morning the CD turned up, the DVD player is still sat on "your item will be dispatching soon". V.impressive, no ?

Why don't they use the term, "Week days" and make it a helluva lot simpler for everyone?

If you're worried about getting it ASAP, go into town and buy it (as "all the shops are open"). If you want to save money, order on-line and be prepared to wait a few days.

What if you live in a crap town where you can't but most gaming/DVD/anything decent related things ?

I think the point is that online shopping in the UK is hit and miss because we're still tied to the notion that there are five working days a week, whereas elsewhere in the world it's seven, hence better service online and faster delivery.

You should think yourself lucky that in this day and age you can buy pretty much anything via the web or catalogues. Don't whine so much, does two days really matter?!
