As Christmas draws near, and as the dayd begin to get cold, Sony will hopefully warm us up with some of the best titles seen on the PS2 so far, and perhaps some of the best titles ever on any format. So, here's a small preview of some of these games, which are all set to be released in the next couple of months.

Grand Theft Auto 3D-
This game has been eagerly awaited by many (just take a look at the games chosen by GAD winners,) and there's a good reason for this. GTA, GTA 2 and GTA: London on the PC were all huge hits, as they gave you the ability to commit horrendous amounts of crime, in the comfort of your own home. However. GTA 3D brings a new aspect the series, and as the title suggests, it's gonna be in full 3D. Instead of the 'old' birdseye camera, you can now control your character or your 'chosen' car from just behind them, and it brings a whole new level to this type of gaming. Look out for this game that will be released on Friday by Rockstar.

AirBlade-
Aitblade will be another extreme sports title. Now while some of you will sigh, and say that it's the just the same as all the others, others will realise that this is an extreme sports game-with a difference. It's a bit like Tony Hawks, in the way that you can score points by doing tricks. But the way in which you score them is rather original. Your character speeds around amazingly interactive cities, pulling off amazing stunts on some sort of hoverboard, never touching the ground. In some ways, it's a mixture of gymnastics and skateboarding...nice. This one will be out sometime in November, from SCEE.

Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex-
Who doesn't like the classic Crash Bandicoot series from PSX? Crash 1, 2, and 3 were all top platformers, along with a couple of spin-offs. In this first-ever PS2 version, we are back to the platforming style, but with improved graphics and some cool additions to the gameplay. But this time it's not Naughty Dog developing this fun, jump and spin-filled colourful game, it's Vivendi Universal. Will they live up to the standards that Naughty Dog set? We'll have to wait until November to find out.

Devil May Cry-
From the makers of the 'brilliant' Resident Evil series, comes Devil May Cry. Why the inverted commas?? Because to be honest, I didn't like RE. Why? Because of the fixed camera angles. I find them annoying and that they break up the gameplay too much. However, lots of other people (evidently,) enjoyed the gore-fest from Capcom, and will obviously be looking forward to Devil May Cry. You play a half-demon half-human guy called Dante, and you have to plough through hundreds of evil beasts, monsters and ghosts with a shotgun, a sword and other weapons dedicated to killing. Lovely stuff. When will the violence begin? November.

James Bond 007-Agent Under Fire-
Ah, another Bond game. After the disappointment of Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough, can we finally own a game can that can compete with Goldeneye? Well, judging by the screenshots, yes, but graphics aren't everything of course. It seemingly has everything that Goldeneye offered-lots of shooting, the odd bit of espionage, foreign ladies and a large amount of guns. But will the gameplay and plot impress? Lets hope so. Keep an eye out for its release, sometime in November.

Max Payne-
Wow, is one of the rare words that appropriately describes the PC-port, Max Payne. Max Payne got rave reviews on the PC scene, and Rockstar (they're on a roll,) have decided to bring it over to PS2. You play Max Payne, who has lots and lots and lots...and lots of enemies, including the police and the mafia. Max Payne has a cracking plot, top notch graphics and some awesome gameplay additions, which could make it the best PS2 game to date. The most notable addition is the ability to slow down time, so you have more time to shoot the many enemies trying to kill you, which gives a nice Matrix effect. Max Payne has all the makings of a classic, and if you don't want this game, then you need to see a doctor (you can pick me up a balloon there while you're at it...oh wait, that's the dentist.)

Robot Wars-
Now this may not be one of the PS2's best games, but I thought I'd include it, as it sounds very interesting. Fans of the metal-grinding, spark-flying TV series have been crying out for a Robot Wars game, and they finally have what they wished for. But will it be any good? Well, the graphics look tasty, and there's quite a lot of arenas and robots, but the gameplay is what I'm worried about. Will it be, "Flip, ram, flip, ram etc"?? Well, once again, November is the time to find out.

Soul Reaver 2-
The Legacy Of Kain continues with Soul Reaver 2 on PS2. Soul Reaver on PSX was claimed by some to be better than Tomb Raider, with some innovative gameplay features, detailed graphics and fast, fun controls, I believe it lived up to that statement. Soul Reaver 2 however, will be better graphically, it will have more weapons, more gameplay options and will hopefully be a little longer. Sounds good, right? Well, this adventure title will be out late-Nvember.

WWF SmackDown: Just Bring It-
Grapple fans all over the world are desperately waiting for this edition to the popular Smackdown series to be released, and they certainly won't have to wait long. They won't be disappointed either-with an updated roster, many more match modes, a new and revamped Season mode (RPG style) along with the ability to have 9 people in the ring at the same time, Just Bring It is set to revolutionise the way we play wrestling games. The only thing missing is *sniff* my favourite wrestler, Scotty 2 Hotty. BUT, I can easily create him in the fantastic create-a-superstar mode. Bring it on!

Other notable releases are Jax and Daxter, SSX Tricky, Splashdown and Smuggler's Run 2.

Well, anyone who said that the PS2 won't bring out any decent games should be curled up in a small hole, hiding from the world. Sony have given us what we wanted from them, and then some, and I feel that the future of the PS2 is looking extremely good. Welcome to the Third Place.

Thanks for reading, Ant.

Just for you guys:

SSX Tricky-
SSX Snowboarding was the PS2's top launch game, and was loved by millions worldwide. It blew away the competition (including 1080 Snowboarding,) and revolutionised extreme sports gaming. Well, the sequel, SSX Tricky is set to be released in December, and everyone's drooling at the thoughts of better graphics, more tricks and environments, and a much better gaming experience overall.

Jak and Daxter:
Now while Nintendo fans waffle away about how Mario is so good, Sony are giving us something which could possibly be even better-Jak and Daxter. This looks set to be an innovative and exciting new platformer, with super graphics and lots of original gameplay. Look out for this one, also in December.

Hey, I don't know much about the other 2, where as I do know about Robot Wars and Soul Reaver.

And in my opinion, Soul Reaver 2 will be better than Jak and Daxter.
