Can anyone give me a bit of advice?

I am looking to get a new graphics card to replace my Hercules Prophet 4500. I have a limited budget and am not sure what to do? Looking around the best I can get for my money appears to be a Radeon 9000 (I have £100 -£150) However, there looks to be about 15 varieties by various companies, how do you know which is best? And will an upgrade from my Prophet to this card be worthwile and noticeable??

Lots of websites give reviews and mark there cards in benchmarks...great...this means nout to me! If I upgrade how will the graphics compare to a PS2?

I have a P4 2GhZ with 512MB DDR Ram and 80Gig HD. Would this system with a Radeon 9000 play something such as GTA Vice City as well as my PS2 does?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Odd.

I was sure I'd read somewhere it was a renaming. I was obviously wrong, ah well.

And can you get a 9500 Pro for under £150?
If so I'd be interested where.

Not quite true, the 9100 runs at 250mhz core and 200mhz ram, as opposed to the 250/250 of the 8500LE and 275 of the original 8500. I'd still recommend the 9500pro for that kind of money really, should outperform most other things in that bracket and has hardware support for DirectX9; alternatively, the Ti4200 if you can't find one, but no hardware dx9 support.

Do watch whether it's the pro or the normal 9500 though - both are still available for under £150, but with some major performance differences.

A 9100 is slightly more powerful than the original GeForce3, but less so that the Ti500, as far as I'm aware.

I have a GeForce 3 that I'm getting rid of, which I think is much better than a Readeon 9000. I can sell it to you if you want.

Framerate would probably be a little smoother, but not much difference there, but you'd be able to play the game in a nice high resolution, with a lovely crisp image.

So, for image quality: better, otherwise not much of a difference.

Does 'very nicely' mean:-
Nearly as good as a PS2
Same as a PS2
Better than a PS2
??

You can pick up a Radeon 9100 for about £70 if you shop around.

It should be right up your street, and yes, should play GTA: VC very well.
