Questions are continually raised about Nintendo's stance in Europe, they have a massive desire to sell well in Europe but not a single price drop since the launch of the console.

The reason I wonder regarding this is that the Gamecube has multiple price drops in Japan (now £72) and USA. To be fair Nintendo's desperation to hold on during the christmas and new year was surprisingly successful, no AAA game and no price drop and yet they survived a killer season... they ran a small promotion leading to the release of Metroid Prime which continued till the release of Zelda. Whereas third party releases are keeping Gamecube sales strong perhaps, with no major release planned till christmas, it is time for our long overdue Gamecube price drop.

£100 console and a game anyone?

Thoughts?

It would certainly seem sensible. I'm more concerned with them getting this Christmas absolutely flawless to increase the fanbase no end. A price drop around now would help attract more owners and add to word-of-mouth however, so they may implement this in the 'summer drought'.

So the starting price for the Cube, £120, has never been dropped by Nintendo?

I know Dixons and Argos, I think, dropped the price to £99 with a game, but if Nintendo were to permanently drop it, then I think it can only be for the good.

It's £130 with a game, currently.

Doubt it.

It would be cool though, three weeks before Christmas:

Gamecube + Mario Kart = £100

Gamecube + Final Fantasy = £100

Gamecube + Viewtiful Jow = £100

Gamecube + F-Zero = £100

Gamecube + 1080 = £100

And numerous bundles of around £160 for a Gamecube and three games.

And by that I mean a choice of games from a range of Sunshine, Smash Bros, Pikmin, Eternal Darkness.

A price drop would be risk because if no one bought any consoles Nintendo would be losing money.

I think this Christmas, at least in Europe, is Nintendo's best chance to gain ground against the opposition. A price drop would do a lot to help, I know that the reason I finally went for a Cube was that I could get the console, pad and Zelda for 129.99, a bargain.

Losing more money. The console is selling at a loss.
